Once again I have found myself drifting into my past and yet here you are again to listen. I suppose that is they way it is, isn't it? You ask me why? Why did I join Dumbledore? It is a very simple answer and yet a very complicated answer. You see, I have never known any thing to be true and whole and purely good. But then I met her…

Lily Evans was the most beautiful girl in Hogwarts, well in my opinion, I know many might disagree. She was smart and caring and it seemed no matter how many times I sneered at her, she still would defend me, though that may have been because she always wanted to get back at that show off Potter!

It was my fault she was killed, I was the spy behind the door. I was a filthy traitor for Voldemort. If not for that bar keeper I probably would have heard more and would have done more damage. It was fortunate that Dumbledore keeps his family close, close enough to watch his back.

It was the night Lily died, though Dumbledore and I did not know of her death until later that evening, I decided to join Dumbledore. He opened his office door and looked at me with surprise. I knew he couldn't read me, so he cautiously let me in. He is a trusting man, but he never turned his back to me.

"What do you want?" He asked, it was as cold as it may appear, but he was serious.

"I want to join your side." I replied.

He nodded and looked at the floor, but I knew he really was looking at me. "How do I know that this is not a trap set by Voldemort?" he asked softly.

"Because, the Dark Lord would want to kill you personally if, he could." I responded.

He smiled and looked up into my eyes, his own sparkled happily. "Right, he would, wouldn't he? What made you turn?"

"He wants to kill someone… important to me, and I want to stop him, but I need help."

He smiled slightly as though he knew how I felt for her. "I see, you mean he intends to kill Lily Potter?"

"Yes, but how…"

"I have my spies."

I nodded, "Of course."

"Severus, if you truly want to join me, then I need an Unbreakable Vow. I can not read you, and you have a history…"

"I know, I will not hesitate." I offered my hand out and he took it.

"Do you promise to join us for good?"

"Yes." The flames shot around our hands. I knew he was powerful, but I didn't realize he didn't have to use a wand.

"Do you swear to help us against Voldemort?"

"Yes."

"You agree to do what I ask?"

"Yes." Then it was done and he let go of my hand. Dumbledore smiled and grabbed me, then forced me into a hug.

"Welcome to the good side." He said happily.
