I will do anything in my power

To somehow earn your love

If I behave and don't talk back,

Will you still beat me?

If I do well in school,

Will you still yell at me?

If I become the perfect child,

Will you continue to hate me?

And yet, hard as I try,

You continue to get angry

What am I doing wrong?

I push myself harder,

Striving to be the perfect son

I try so hard every day

To be a "good boy" and make you happy

But no matter what I do or achieve,

It's never enough for you

But I will do anything in my power

To somehow earn your love
