A/N – I have feeling this way about war for a long time but watching Kingdom of Heaven last night gave me the push to write about it. War is stupid – but is it avoidable and what can Christians do about it? Some of the themes touched upon in this poem – apathy, revenge, love and a religious perspective (although not necessarily sure about the official view of the denominations so if you could help me out there in the reviews). Ultimately, WAR IS STUPID.

Mathew 5 v 44A gulf between nations.
A divide so strong we will never understand each other's motives,
Opinions,
Way of life.
Fear develops around us
And we become ignorant to them.
We believe the lies, the stereotypes –
We fear for our familes, for our innocents.
Why shouldn't we?
It is instinct to protect, to love
But at what cost?
How can we value our own life above theirs?
Who decides?
GOD decides!
GOD judges!
And yet we ignore this and take matters into our own hands –
We destroy the world, relationships.
Our fear has brought us to this –
Where we scream and shout at Muslims who have been absorbed into our culture.
Where we invade countries on pure suspicion.
A man shoots you,
You shoot back.
Simple – he's your foe – just so
Just that.
Revenge, a never ending circle of hatred and suffering.
We know we should love but how can we love the murderers –
Ask the wives, the children of soldiers – they know, they live with it everyday.
Normal people caught in a make believe struggle because the megalomaniacs tell them to.
They are courageous, we owe them our lives – and we thank them,
But we live because they kill.
Is this logic?
Is it instinct to go to war?
What can we do?
Who do we support?
Confusion now takes over.
We protect the innocent – that is all we can do
The inevitabilty of war,
The futility of peace,
The hatred of others,
And the humanity to survive.
War is a struggle and the strong prevail over the weak
Rubbish!
War is easy, the strong prevail in body but through it the mind becomes weak – the psychological damage.
I do not know the answers
I do not know the mass of faces that die.
All I know is that war is stupid,
But I also know we cannot escape it.
A tragedy that is doomed to repeat itself –
And we can do nothing but watch, or fight or die.
If God wills war – let him have it.
A/N – War is a contradiction and I am just highlighting the fact that in order for us to survive innocent people are on the receiving end. I have a defeatist attitude on this subject so I would appreciate some views on this – to maybe understand war in another concept. And I am not trying to criticise soldiers- I owe them my life.
