The television was on.
Isis watched mindlessly as she prepared dinner for herself. Just having the buzz of the voices managed to keep her mind occupied, and she preferred to have her mind occupied as frequently as possible.
Because if her mind wasn't occupied, it would start working again.
Of course, if it wanted to tell Isis something particularly important, it would do so anyway, but the television buzz served to ward off the useless minor visions that constantly annoyed her. Isis didn't care what someone was going to say to her tomorrow at work, or what was being said behind her back. Sometimes she thought it cared more than she did.
It was a pain sometimes. No, all the time, because even when it did send her useful visions, they were so often hurtful. She hated it.
But she didn't have a choice.
So she kept the television on.
