There Was a Disturbance
curiouzkatt: I have no idea why I thought this up… I guess it IS true that too much schoolwork gets to your brain… if you notice there's a concept of Spiderman 2 here, well, you're right. I watched it for an assignment, and this is what happened.
Disclaimer: I do not and will never ever own Saiyuki… if I don't try hard enough.
Chapter One: Togenkyo 2004
It was early morning, and nothing could be heard but the peaceful song of the forest surrounding Changan City. In a clearing not too far away stood a brown haired boy with his weapon at hand. His eyes were closed, fully concentrating in his training. The wind blew, tossing a few leaves into the air and the boy struck all of them into little pieces. What form! What grace! What fluidity! What concentration! What focus! What power! The boy slowly pulled back into the opening stance then sat down and sighed. A low growling sound emanated from somewhere. He touched his stomach. "Man. I'm hungry…"
What hunger…!
The boy checked his watch. Nine Thirty. "Oh no! I'm late!" he made his weapon disappear and broke into a run, heading for the Culinary Arts University. While h ran, he thought of how he could put his powers into good use. He discovered it a few years back, and he decided he wanted to help people with it – but right now, he has to get to class.
The lesson was over and the bell was rung, a sign for students to go to their next class, or to go home. That was college life – drifting in and out of the campus and getting things done. The professor was always the last to leave the room, and as he stepped out to the schoolyard, he saw a cloud of dust speeding towards him, until it passed him. It could only be one person.
"Son Goku! You're late!"
Goku stopped in his tracks as he realized that that was his cooking instructor. He ran back and apologized. "I'm so sorry I'm late professor… there was this cook-off at the city square and –"
"Save your breath…" the teacher scowled at him, but his look softened. "You're a creative lad... but this slacking off just won't do! Have you finished your paperwork?"
"I'm working on it… I'm doing my paper on the Head Chef of Suzakuno restaurant…" Goku answered.
"Suzakuno?" the professor said thoughtfully. "If I'm not mistaken, the man you speak of is Cho Hakkai, my old acquaintance…" the boy nodded. "Don't dare disappoint me, young man!"
"Don't worry sir, I won't."
His professor sighed. "Since you still made an effort to come, I'll give you an assignment to make up for the class you missed. Hakkai-san is going to sponsor a big party on Saturday, and he was asking me if I could send anyone to help him." Goku gulped. "Maybe while helping you can make an article about the event perhaps?"
"But sir, I…"
"No buts, Son Goku… what I'm asking you to do might just get you to pass this course. And besides, it's a learning experience for you."
"I understand..."
That afternoon...
Hakkai laughed as Goku explained what his Professor said as they prepared sushi for a small group of customers. It was after lunch, and this was what Goku and Hakkai called the snack time, because most customers who came here either only had drinks, or light meals. They were mostly strangers to Changan, and it was Hakkai's pleasure to entertain their questions about his hometown. Goku was always amazed with Hakkai's broad knowledge of things, and he always took notes on things that he liked. This time though, their customers were his schoolmates at the University, namely, Toufa, Lirin, Nataku, Shouryu, Shouen, and Meiho. And as he served the several platters of sushi (while giving Toufa a smile), something was nagging at him that something bad was going to happen.
