Except for the other three no-names announced on the intercom near
the end of the chapter. The name are stupid, so bear with me!

About a week later, Rinoa was in class, studying her GF and others, and she learned how to
junction them. As the students left the classroom, she heard her name being called.
" Yes, Instructor?" she polietly addressed Quistis.
" I see here on your record that you haven't taken your SeeD exam yet." she replied,
" And today is the last day for the year to take it. Do you think you're ready to try?"
' My exam?!' she thought, ' Oh, wait, she means Fire Cave...' She nodded slowly.
" Yeah, I think I'm ready." she replied.
Quistis smiled. " Good," she said, gathering her papers. " I'll meet you at the entrance gate
in twenty minutes. Don't forget your GF." She walked off. Rinoa also left, but instead of
heading to the entrance gate, she decided to go to the auditorium first. She hurried down the
steps, and saw who she was looking for.
" Selphie!" she cried out, waving.
Selphie turned away from her work, and smiled. " Rinny!" she shouted, running up to her.
" You look happy!"
" I'm about to take my SeeD exam!" she replied, and the two started jumping up and down.
" Rinny, that's great! I know you'll pass." she reassured her.
" Thank you." she replied. " So, whatcha doin?"
" I'm setting up for the Garden Festival," she said, " Wanna help?"
" Sure," Rinoa said, " What can I do?"
Selphie thought for a moment. " Why don't you be my talent agent?"
" Cool!" she replied, " So, what kind of talent do you want me to look for?"
" Some nice entertainment," Selphie said, " You know, like a band, or maybe a singer..."
She slightly paused before saying 'a singer', and Rinoa tensed up.
' She knows?!' she thought nervously. ' But, how?'
" Rinny, are you okay?" she asked worriedly.
" Who told you?" Rinoa asked. The look on Selphie's face told her that she had worried
for nothing. But, now, she was busted.
" Who told me what?" she asked. Rinoa looked away, embarrassed, and Selphie stomped
her foot.
" C'mon, Rinny, you can tell me, I promise not to tell!" she begged.
' If I tell her, then she'll want me to sing...' she thought. ' It won't be a secret anymore...'
She took a deep breath. " I'm a singer. I came here so I could become a SeeD. I never really
did any music, but-"
" Wait a second!" Selphie exclaimed, " You're Rinoa Caraway, Julia's daughter!"
" How did you guess?" she asked, a bit confused.
" You started to say Caraway was your last name the day you came here," she replied,
" Besides, you look like her...a little bit."
" Have you heard of me or something?" Rinoa asked slowly.
" Have I heard of you?" Selhpie replied, " YES! I've been waiting for your album to
come out!"
" Actually," she replied, a bit ashamed, " That was only a rumor. I thought about
recording, but then I decided that I didn't want that. I just wanted to do soemthing to help
people instead of entertain them."
Selphie sighed. " So...I guess you don't want to perform for the Garden festival, huh?"
She looked sad.
'Oh hyne...' " How can I say no to you?" she replied, slightly grinning. " You're
practically my best friend, and I only just got here."
Selhpie jumped up and down. " Woo hoo!!!" she replied, hugging Rinoa, " You're the
greatest friend I've ever had!"
Rinoa laughed. " I've gotta go take my exam now." she said. She ran off, waving. " See
you later!"
She ran as fast as she could. 'I'm going to be late!' she panicked, as she ran. She bumped
shoulders with someone. " Sorry!" she shouted, and she looked behind her. It was Seifer.
'Ha,' she laughed to herself, when she ran right into the Commander.
" I'm so sorry!" she cried, trying to jump up. She felt a jerk, and realized he'd pulled her
up.
" Next time, I suggest you watch where you're going, Miss Heartilly," he said in that
same voice. " I also suggest you don't run."
Rinoa found herself staring into his deep blue eyes. 'Hyne...STOP IT!' she thought,
embarrassed, 'He'll notice!' " S-sorry, Commander Leonhart, sir." she said, blushing.
He noticed how nervous she was. 'Why is she nervous?' he thought, 'And why was she
staring at me?'
" Sir?" she asked meekly, " May I please go now?"
He stepped aside. Rinoa grinned slightly. " Thank you so much!" she replied, walking
as fast as she could, until she was out of sight. Then, she started to run. Squall shook his
head.
'Why is she in such a hurry, anyway? Why am I even thinking about her?!' He shook off
some strange feeling, and started to walk to the elevator.
Rinoa saw Quistis right by the entrance, just as she said. She stopped right next to her,
gasping for air. Quistis laughed.
" Relax," she said, " You're a few minutes early. It's okay to catch your breath." She
paused. " In fact, I suggest it. We have a bit of a trek ahead of us."
Rinoa's breathing slowed down a bit. " Thank you," she replied, sitting on the curb.
Quistis sat down next to her, and waited until she was ready. Then, they started walking to
Fire Cave.
On their way, they met a few BiteBugs, but they were no challenge. About twenty
minutes later, they made it to Fire Cave. Quistis talked to the guards ahead.
" They've given us options for our time limit," she replied, " How long do you
think it'll take for us to get to the battle, and how long do you think the battle will take?"
'Time limit?' she thought, 'I didn't know about that...' she thought hard, calculating times
in her head. Finally, she replied, " I guess...about twenty minutes to be safe?"
" Okay," Quistis replied, and she gave the guards Rinoa's reply. They stepped aside, and
let the women go inside.
As they walked, Rinoa looked at her surroundings. 'They don't call it Fire Cave for
nothing!' she thought, feeling the heat from the lava. On the way, they met Bombs and Fire
bats, which weren't too hard, but then they met a Buel, and that was a bit of a challenge.
'Good thing I decided on twenty minutes,' she thought, 'I've got about thirteen minutes
left!' Suddenly, they reached a dead end. 'Oh, great, now what?' She thought, when she
noticed Quistis stepping back. " What?" she asked, when suddenly, Ifrit appeared.
Rinoa attacked him a few times, but it didn't seem to be doing much. 'Okay,' she thought,
'He's going down now!' She summoned Shiva.
" Shiva?!" Ifrit exclaimed, " But, how?" About four minutes later, Ifrit had been defeated,
and he agreed to join Rinoa.
As they walked back, Quistis spoke up. " You seemed a little flushed when you met me
at the entrance. What happened?"
' Even I don't know why I was flushed...' she thought. " I was running through the
garden, and I bumped into Seifer." she repleid, " I didn't watch where I was going, and,
well...I kinda ran into the Commander."
" Really?" Quistis said, " And what happened?"
'Don't tell her about how you stared into his eyes!' " Well, " she said, " He told me to
watch where I was going, and I apologized. Are his eyes really THAT blue?" 'Oops! Oh,
hyne,' she thought, 'Now I'll hear it!'
" Yeah..." she replied, amused, " Were you staring?"
Rinoa blushed. " Well..."
She laughed. " I guess he isn't that much of a meanie if you noticed!" she teased. Rinoa
had called him that just yesterday when he put her off again.
" Hey, we're back!" Quistis shouted out to Zell. He was waiting for them.
" What are you doing here, Zell?" Rinoa asked.
" Hey, I had to come see the new SeeD," he replied.
" Don't be so sure, Zell," Quistis replied, " After all, some people last year deserved to
pass, but they didn't. It's all up to the headmaster."
They all went inside, and Rinoa headed off to her dorm to catch a nap. When she
woke up, she heard an announcement over the intercom.
" Attention! Will the following students please report to the Headmaster's office:
Cloud McBayne, Rinoa Heartilly, May Lockley, and Derek Focht. We also ask that
Instructor Quistis Trepe report immediately after."
' Is this good?' Rinoa thought to herself, as she walked out of her dorm and to the
elevator. She wasn't sure she knew what was going on.

Author's Note: I've been writing each chapter in my notebook since I started, but the chapters
get longer when I type them. For some reason, I seem to have more inspiration when I'm
typing it up!
