Rinoa hurried over to the elevator. She pushed the button for the third floor, and four
other people hurried in. One of them was Quistis. She looked over at Rinoa, and slightly
grinned.
" Nervous?" she asked.
Rinoa nodded. " What about you?" she asked.
Quistis shrugged. " I'm used to going up to see the Headmaster." she replied.
" Happens everytime one of my students passes the SeeD exam."
Rinoa looked at the other people in the elevator. ' I don't recognize any of them...'
she thought. 'Does that mean...that I passed...?' Just as she continued to ponder it, the
elevator stopped. Rinoa felt the butterflies in her chest fall to her stomach. 'Here
we go...' she thought uneasily, stepping out behind everyone else. 'Why am I so nervous?'
she thought, 'I usually have no problem doing this kind of stuff!' she took her place in
the line up, and looked up. In front of her were Headmasted Cid, and...
'Hyne!' she thought, turning pink at the sight of the Commander, 'I didn't
really think HE'D be here!'
He noticed her discomfort. 'Is she always like this?' he thought for a moment.
Then, he snapped out of it. 'Why should it be of my concern, anyway?'
One by one, the four cadets were named SeeD. When Rinoa's turn came,
Squall said to her quietly, " You have no reason to be worried. You did great."
" Thank you, Commander." she said softly.
They both stared into each other's eyes for a moment. They both started
turning pink.
' Why, why, WHY?!' she thought, ashamed.
' Why am I staring at her?' he thought, confused. He stepped back, and took
his place next to the Headmaster.
Everyone started jumping up and down, and showing off their medals. Rinoa,
who was still a bit flustered, snuck her way out of the room, and into the elevator.
' I know why I was nervous now,' she thought to herself as she took the elevator
down, 'I was worried that the Commander was still mad at me for running!' She tried
to assure herself that that was the reason, but by the time she made it to her dorm, and
had shut the door, she realized that she couldn't fool herself. " I...I think I'm starting to
like him..." she said quietly, a bit dazed.

Not much later, just as Rinoa was collecting her thoughts,Selphie ran into the room.
" Rinny!!" she cried, " Did you make it?!" When Rinoa nodded, she started jumping up and
down. " Woo HOO!!!!!" she shouted, and she started dancing around.
'Why didn't I figure this out sooner?' Rinoa thought to herself, 'Why didn't I know??'
Selphie stopped talking. " Rinny?" she asked quietly, " Were you even listening to me?"
Rinoa looked up, ashamed. " Huh?" she asked, knowing that it would be a big mistake.
" What's on your mind?" she asked gently, sitting down next to her friend.
" Nothing..." she replied, trying to hide it. 'Please, just this once, don't ask!' she silently
begged.
" Rinoa, this isn't like you..." Selphie said, concerned. Rinoa always spoke her mind, but
right now, she was doing the opposite. " You never keep secrets from me! You always tell
people how you feel, even the Commander!"
Rinoa sighed. " Will you promise not to tell anyone?"
Selphie sat up. " Promise!" she swore, grinning.
" I think I'm..." she paused slightly. " I think I'm falling for the Commander."
" What?!" Selphie exclaimed, jumping up. " Are you serious?!"
" Selphie!" Rinoa jumped. " I thought you were going to support me on this!
" Of course I am!" she replied, " It's just that...well, no one's EVER had a crush on
Squall. Not even before he became Commander." She thought back. 'Girls never really
liked him,' she reminisced, ' And he didn't care anyway. Or, that's what he wanted us to
think, anyway. He always acted like that, since Sis left.'
" Selphie?" Rinoa said quietly. " Are you okay?" She started to panic. ' Don't tell
me she likes him, too!!' she thought, hoping she was wrong.
" I'm fine." she replied. " I was just thinking..."
" About what?" she asked.
' I'd better not get into his past...' Selphie thought. " I was thinking about how cute
it is that you like him!" she replied, hoping Rinoa wouldn't realize she was lying.
She didn't. " Selphie, you're too sweet!" she replied, hugging her. " And you promise
not to tell?"
Selphie nodded. " Promise." she replied. 'Just wait until Irvy hears!' she thought
happily.
" Not even Irvine??" she pleaded, and Selphie could've sworn she had read her mind.
' Aw, darn!' she thought. " Not even Irvine." she said, crossing her fingers AND toes.

The next night, there was a celebration in the Garden for the newest SeeD. Selphie had set
up an orchestra, and there were young couples dancing on the floor. Rinoa was wearing a
beautiful dress. It was light blue, with a long flowing skirt. The top looked like a bodice,
and it laced up in the back. Everyone who had seen her had stopped and admired it, and it
made her happy. She looked around to find someone who was alone, like her, someone
who would dance with her. Suddenly, she noticed that the Commander was leaning against
the wall, just watching, and she felt the sudden impulse to go up to him and talk. She made
her way across the room, and she stopped in front of him. ' Now what?' she thought
nervously. " Hi, Commander." she said quietly. He looked up, and she found herself starting
to stare into those deep blue eyes again. 'Hyne...' she thought, trying to stop, but it took a
while before she actually could.
When Squall looked up, he couldn't believe that it was Rinoa standing before him. He
found himself staring, too. 'How? Why?' he thought at first, frustrated. Then, he softened a
bit. ' She looks lovely...' he started to think, but then he stopped himself. 'What the hell's
wrong with me?! I'm never like this!'
Rinoa was starting to get too nervous. 'He's not saying anything...' she thought, worried.
Suddenly, she noticed a sparkle in his eye, and he said, " Hello."
She sighed in relief. 'Good.' she thought, ' I thought he'd never speak up!' She paused.
'Now what?'
' What does she want?' he thought to himself, 'She's just standing there, trying to make
me nervous.'
'Say something!' she thought, panicked. " Would you care to dance with me?" she blurted
out. ' Hyne-not THAT!' she thought, becoming terrified.
' What?!' Squall thought. 'Dance?!' " I.....don't really know........HOW to dance..." he
started quietly.
' Is he just trying to make me upset?!' she thought, becoming more and more nervous
every second. " Everyone can dance!" she exclaimed softly. " If you just try-"
" I don't think I can." he replied, and Rinoa started to get mad.
" Come here, I'll show you." she insisted, and she pulled him out on the dance floor,
where they started out on a waltz. For a moment, the waltz played fast, and Rinoa could've
sworn the floor was spinning. Then, all of a sudden, it slowed down. When it slowed down,
she realized that she wasn't leading anymore-Squall was! She looked down, and grinned slyly.
' 'Don't know how to dance!' Sure, you don't.' she thought wickedly, and as soon as she
looked up, her smiled hid itself away, and the dance ended. The couple stared into each
other's eyes, this time, so long that everyone started to dance again, and they were just
standing in the middle of it all. When they finally realized, they broke away their gazes. 'What
the hell am I doing?!' she thought, embarrassed at being caught, and she ran for the Secret
Area.
When she finally made it, she leaned against the railing. The cool breeze blew her hair
out of her eyes, and she stared up at the moon. " Tonight is so pretty..." she said quietly to
herself, closing her eyes.She heard the wind, and the crickets, and felt the moon shining on
her face. She heard footsteps, too...her eyes opened, and she whirrled around-only to come
face to face with...
