Chapter 13
Rinoa walked back to her dorm arm-in-arm with Squall late that night. It might have been early morning, but the couple wasn't sure. They stopped at her door, and kissed goodnight.
" Goodnight, Squall." she whispered gently, opening her door.
" Goodnight, Rinoa." he whispered back, kissing her hand. She smiled at him, and walked in.
She turned on the light, feeling warm and fuzzy inside. But, when the light came on, the feeling went away. " Ever heard of privacy?" she angrily asked the figure sitting in HER chair.
" Ever heard of respect?" it replied, standing. " Because you, young lady, have show me no respect at all."
Rinoa groaned. " Here we go..." she said, familiar to the beginning of a repeated argument.
" You have the nerve to refuse your destiny of completing your mother's work," General Caraway said, " Then, you run away to a Garden, THEN you begin a relationship with THAT boy!"
" Oh, shut up!" she shot at him. " I haven't got any time to listen to your shit, General."
" I am your father," he said icily, " And I belive I deserve at least a speck of your respect, if not more. You will not address me as a General, but as your father. Do you understand me?"
" AND I AM YOUR DAUGHTER!" she screamed. " I have grown up more than you think! I am a woman now, and I deserve to choose my own life! And," she added emotionally, " I HAVE THE RIGHT TO CHOOSE WHOM DOES AND DOES NOT SHARE IN IT. Do I make MYSELF clear?"
" You're only seventeen," the General replied, emotionless, " You don't know anything."
" Oh, give it up!" she said, balling her hands into fists by her side. " You think that, just because you're older, and have all this power as a General, you can order me around as one of your soldiers. Well, then, you know what? FINE!" She walked up to him and stared into his eyes. " PUT ME ON THE FRONT LINES, GENERAL, BECAUSE IF YOU ARE GOING TO ORDER ME AROUND, I MAY AS WELL SACRIFICE MY LIFE! Oh, and another thing..." she added before going into her room to change, " Fuck you."
Before the General could start with a million more arguments, she locked her door. She felt anger, and hate, but, most of all, scared. If he knew she was here, and he came, then his intentions were definitley to bring her home. She didn't want to go back there, she would do anything. 'Oh...' she thought weakly, 'I wish Squall could be with me now...' She shook her head. 'No, it's too risky to have him here when my father is hanging around...I have to take care of this myself.' She stepped out of her room, dressed in her nightgown. She scoffed at the sight of the General, still sitting in her chair, looking at-
" WHAT THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING?!?!?" she cried out, running to her computer, trying to get him out of the way. " You need to get rid of all of this junk," he said, talking about the photos she had collected of Squall. He started to drag the first folder to the recycle bin, but Rinoa shut off the monitor. " RESPECT ME, DAMN YOU!" she cried. " These things are mine, and you have no right-"
" You have no idea how much pain you have put me through by seeing that boy!" he cut in. " I promise you, if you ever see that boy again, you will be under house arrest!"
Rinoa put a hand on her hip, giving the man a Look. " Meaning what?" she asked sarcastically, " Threaten the Headmaster so he'll keep my doors locked?"
" No," he replied, standing up, " You are coming home, young lady. At the break of dawn, you will be escorted by Zone to the limo, and you will come home to work on your musical career."
" No." she replied sternly, " I am not coming home."
" Yes you are." he replied, determined. " I have a bodyguard for you tonight, and tomorrow while you pack, just to make sure you don't try and sneak out. And don't think of calling anyone to help you, because I have given him instructions as well as permission to take anyone out who dares to come too close to your dorm. ANYONE."
" What about my roommate?" she asked, trying to find a loophole.
" She has been temporarily reassigned to a different room tonight." he replied, cutting off that idea, " And is given strict directions NOT to tell anyone why." He walked out. " I'll see you tommorrow at dawn."
Rinoa, whom had remained strong during the entire argument, now fell to the floor like a wilted rose, and sobbed shakily for over an hour. " What am I going to do?" she cried. " Squall..."
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
That night, Squall had the same dream as he had that night in the Infirmary. Except, this time, he was screaming a name. He woke up in a cold sweat. 'Strange,' he thought. He had been screaming for Rinoa.
He decided to go for a walk to clear his mind. As he walked, his promise that niht echoed throgh his mind. He smiled at the memory, holding the words close to his heart and soul. ' We'll always have more than tonight.' he said.
Rinoa smiled at him. 'Promise?' she asked.
" I swear as long as I'm alive..." he said aloud, softly. He meant every word, and he vowed to himself and to Rinoa that he would always be there for her.
He walked to the edge of the balcony in the Secret Area, where they had been hours before. He stared at the sky, and didn't move until the sun was rising. ' I'll go see her...' he thought happily, walking out of the Secret Area, and through the Training Center, avoiding battles with ease. 'I'll surprise her.' he thought cheerfully.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rinoa snapped the last suitcase shut, hearing it lock. The room was barren now, so empty, and depressing. It reminded her of how she felt-hollow. She prayed she wouldn't see Squall as she left-it would hurt too much. She shakily took a deep breath, and knocked quietly on her door.
" Yes?" a voice said from the outside.
" I've finished packing." she said weakly.
The door opened. " Good," Seifer replied, " The limo's waiting."
" Seifer?!" she quietly exclaimed, feeling betrayed. 'He KNEW I hated Seifer! That bastard.' she thought. " What are you doing?"
" Your father temporarily hired me as your bodyguard." he replied. Fujin was in clear view behind him.
" What about your bitch?" she asked rudely, " Did he hire her, too?"
" Stop being so jealous, Rin," he replied, " She didn't want to leave me here alone. I told her you have claws." He smirked. " Let's go, Princess."
Raijin walked in, and grabbed every suitcase, leaving her duffel bag. She picked that up slowly, and, accepting the fact the she wa outnumbered three to one, stepped in the bodyguard triangle. She took one last look at her dorm room. 'Goodbye...' she thought, bidding farewell to her loved home. Then, the door closed, and the four made their way toward the front gate.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Squall was walking down the corridor, when he saw Seifer, Fujin, and Raijin. 'What the hell are they doing?' he thought. Suddenly, he saw Rinoa. " Rinoa!" he shouted, running toward the crowd.
She looked up, surprised to hear his voice, but also upset. 'No...' she thought, 'Turn around before I see you; I don't want to see-' She looked ahead and saw her one true love running toward her, not yet realizing what was going on.
" Stay back, Leonhart!" Seifer shouted, pulling out his gunblade. " Don't you move another inch." He signaled for Fujin and Raijin to go ahead. They started to continue their way to the front gate, but Rinoa couldn't stand to just walk away. She broke free, dropping her bag, and ran to Squall. Seifer grabbed her arm, and pulled her back before she made it.
" Let me go!" she shouted.
" Fujin, Raijin," he commanded, but Rinoa kicked him in the groin.
" Fuck you." she said, throwing her arms around Squall. She burst into tears, while he stroked her hair.
" What's going on?" he asked, " Baby, why are they...?"
Before she could answer, Seifer spoke up. " The General came last night, and ordered the Headmaster to release Rinoa from all duties as a SeeD. She is being sent home now."
" Orders from WHOM?!" Squall asked.
" Rinoa's father, General Caraway." Seifer replied, almost as if was common knowledge. " Don't tell me she never told you about her father!"
Squall looked down at the brunette, clinging to him, and asked her quietly, " Is it true?"
Rinoa sobbed. " Yes..." she replied, " My name is Rinoa Heartilly-Caraway, and I'm daughter to General Caraway."
" Why didn't you tell me?" he asked.
" Because he always told me that your father and he were rivals," she replied defensively, " I didn't want that to kill any feelings you might have had for me!"
" So you LIED to me?" he asked, hurt.
Rinoa looked into his eyes, and saw the pain. She cried even harder now, and Seifer tried to grab her arm again, but missed when Squall moved.
" Rinoa," he said softly, " I told you I loved you. Don't you think that means I love YOU? Why should it matter if our fathers are rivals?"
" I was scared..." she said quietly, sniffling.
The sight of the young girl shaking and crying was a lot for him to take in. He only stood in the one spot, not moving. Rinoa, on the other hand, was trying hard to stay by him with out being yanked away by Seifer. When he finally did get a grasp on her arm, she held onto Squall long enough to kiss him one more time. " Goodbye, Squall..." she said. With one final yank, Seifer had caught the brunette off guard enough to get her away from Squall.
" I'm in trouble already for this much lingering," Seifer said, " Not to mention that final gesture. Well, well," he paused, smirking, " I'll be back tomorrow, Commander. I suggest that, by then, you forget everything you know or remember of Rinoa Caraway." He walked off, following Fujin and Raijin, who had already make progress in escorting Rinoa to the limo at the front gate.
" Rinoa!" he cried out, running after them. " Wait, please, let me say one more thing! Please!" He ran out to the front gate, and watched in defeat as the limo pulled off, with his love as prisoner. " I love you..." he said softly, " And I still vow to you, I will always be there for you..."
