Jonas and Gabriel rode down the snowy hill. Jonas tried to keep little Gabriel warm; all the warm memories were gone- Oh how Jonas wished he asked for more pleasureable, warm, sunshine filled memories from the Giver. What would it be like in this new community? What would Jonas and Gabe find? Jonas heard what he believed to be called music. The Giver had kept that memory-on Jonas's request- but something still told him that music was the singing he heard.

Gabe made slight movements, but nothing too noticable. Jonas enjoyed the ride on the sled that had only been in the memory before. The colors were so bright, so vibrant, and Jonas couldn't stop thinking about his left-behind family unit. Lily, his mom, his dad-he wanted to go back, but he wanted, also, to leave the Sameness. He wanted to see the Giver. And he also knew that he couldn't go back so that the plan would work. The plan. The plan he and The Giver had stayed up late talking about. Th Giver, suffering in pain, lying to the community-even though he was allowed to lie- it all seemed so wrong. And it all seemed so right.

Jonas and Gabriel arrived at the end of the hill. Jonas shook a little snow off of his shoulders then awoke Gabriel.

"Gabe? Gabriel...?" Jonas said.

He stirred and he looked at Jonas. Jonas looked back and actually noticed the bright color of Gabe's blue eyes. Blue was a nice color-a beautiful color. Jonas touched Gabriel's small, fragile, smooth face. Gabe giggled and lightly grasped Jonas's hand. Jonas and Gabriel started walking on towards the brightly colored lights of a new community.
