He has a nice enough voice I guess. It's nothing spectacular, but at least he can carry a tune, and even sound nice doing it. I can hear him outside, as he sits on the porch, swinging and singing. I think that it's and old Church hymn. He dresses like a priest, so it seems to fit. That and the whole God thing.
I think that it's interesting; he's never so quiet when he knows that other people can see and hear him.
I think he just puts up a mask, hiding behind his jokes and laughter. Behind the useless babble there's a sad, disturbed young man.
We all are.
Sad and disturbed young men.
War does that to you, makes you into a person you never really wanted to be.
The hymn itself isn't really all that pretty, but that one line that he keeps retpeating... I wonder what it means to him.
As far as I've seen, he isn't terribly religious. I mean, calling yourself the God Of Death is considered blasphemous in his religion I think.
Angry God and all that...
It seems to fit him though, that line. In a way that does, and yet doesn't make sense.
"Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to thee; How great thou art, How great thou art..."
Maybe it's because he tries so hard to help all of us out, help us to relax. Making jokes, letting us realize that we're really still boys, not hardened soldiers.
His soul does sing, shining strains of love, of friendship. Even as they sound beautiful, they sound ugly as well. As though he forces it.
He was hurt long ago, and hasn't learned to trust yet.
God as his savior? I can't really think of how that one works.
Yes, Shinigami is his nickname, but is he thinking of Shinigami, or the God of his religion?
If he's talking about Shinigami, then the "How great thou art"'s are easily understood.
If he's talking about his God, then I'm not so sure.
Maybe it's just a hymn stuck in his head, and it means nothing. Maybe I'm trying to hard to give him a personality I can understand.
"Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to thee; How great thou art, How great thou art; Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to thee; How great thou art, How great thou art..."
Beautiful none the less.
"Duo, it's time to head out. We have to get in position by 03:00. We need to set out."
He looks up, startled by my voice. He looks a bit sheepish, saying "Okay Quatre, I'll be in soon."
He sighed, and when he thought I was out of hearing range, I heard him say:
"Heero, I miss you. I wish you could come back, but if I never see you again, tell them hello for me. I know you'd like them..."
He sighed and came inside.
Just a drabble about Duo, as seen by one Quatre Rabarbera Winner.
