Naruto and his mates beamed down to Nuvia two hours later. Alison was reading her datapad to Naruto, Samui, Shizuka and T'Lyra. "Years of tectonic activity resulted in the planet's surface being fragmented into ten small continents, all about the same size, and all located around the equator. Regarding the climate, Risa has warm temperatures and tropical humidity tempered by mild breezes and light rains. The planet has two very small polar ice caps which gave it a hint of natural coldness. That's what the planetary guide says anyway."
"I'm more interested in the Temtibi Lagoon Resort we're going to be staying at." said Shizuka excitedly.
Samui looked over redhead's shoulder and asked, "What does it say about the Temtibi Lagoon, Alison?"
Alison scanned over her data and said, "According to this, the planet's weather control is configured so it never rains in the lagoon. The water is always warm, and the wind smells sweet. The hills that surround the lagoon contain many hot springs as well."
Naruto was interested in the weather control grid and said, "Risa has one of the most sophisticated weather control systems known. It suppresses the natural rain-soaked climate in favor of a sunny and tropical one."
Shizuka shook her head, "We are here to enjoy the weather my love, not dissect it."
T'Lyra said, "I too am curious about the weather control system. It is a marvel of engineering."
The group of five soon boarded a luxurious transport to the Temtibi Lagoon Resort and a little relaxation…

Chapter 62
Stardate 2279.190, Starbase 1, NCC-1701 U.S.S. Enterprise
Personal Log of Admiral James T. Kirk, Stardate 2279.190. Two weeks ago, on Stardate 2279.176, I received a triple encoded message from Captain Naruto of the U.S.S. Wolverine regarding a bioweapon outbreak in the Remus System. He informed me that he believed it was a clandestine operation hidden from the Admiralty and that the cipher they decoded on the Remus IX base was linked to Section 31.
I have spoken to Fleet Admiral Heihachiro Nogura about this bioweapon development and he was outraged. Nogura is dispatching a cruiser squadron to be led by U.S.S. Enterprise to Starbase 15 to pick up Shimura and Marine Colonel Hubert Dowling. We are to neutralize the clandestine operations in Remus by force if necessary. Section 31 is slippery, but they won't get away with it this time…

Stardate 2279.196, Planet Risa, Temtibi Lagoon Resort
After a week of vacation, Captain Naruto M'Fau was still baffled at the outrageous behavior of the native Risians. They were practically pornographic by nature and he couldn't wait to leave. He loved spending time with his mates but the natives wouldn't leave them alone. That was when he received an emergency transmission from the ship and (almost) smiled. 'It seems that Admiral Kirk has made his move at last.' "Captain Naruto M'Fau to Wolverine. I have one to beam up."

Planet Risa Orbit, NCC-1602 U.S.S. Wolverine
Naruto threw on a fresh uniform and went to his ready room to receive the secured transmission. What he didn't expect was Fleet Admiral Nogura to be on the other side of the screen. The Fleet Admiral said, "The Wolverine's shore leave is cancelled Captain Naruto. The crews of the U.S.S. Wolverine and U.S.S. Sanctuary are to report to Federation Starbase 1 immediately. The orders of Admiral Danzo Shimura to keep silent about the bioweapon development program in the Remus System are hereby rescinded."
The blonde Vulcan said, "I will recall my crew immediately sir."
Nogura's eyes narrowed and he said, "We shall be meeting face to face once again very soon Captain. You seem to have a knack for circumventing authority to get the job done. There will be a lot for us to talk about."
"I understand sir." replied Naruto.
"Starfleet Command out." said the Fleet Admiral as the screen went blank.
Naruto marched onto the bridge and saw Commander Kumo there. "The word sir?" asked Mabui.
"The word is given." replied the blonde. "Fleet Admiral Nogura has rescinded the orders to stay silent about the Remus System bioweapon research. Our shore leave is cancelled. Once we collect our crew the Wolverine is headed to Starbase 1. Issue a recall order immediately Commander."
The Executive Officer smirked. "Just as you planned sir?"
Naruto had a gleam in his eye. "Not exactly, but very close."

Personal Log of Captain Naruto M'Fau, Stardate 2279.196. After taking Colonel Dowling into custody and capturing the bioweapons facility, we acted as if to leave the status quo as is. In reality we uploaded and decoded every bit of data that was in the facility and found that it all points back to Section 31.
I knew that the local Starfleet Intelligence was suppressed by Admiral Shimura and letting things go would give those involved in this conspiracy a false sense of security. Also, their urgency to abandon the Remus IX bases would be slowed down.
After contacting Captain Spock and Admiral James T. Kirk with all the information we had, I left it in their capable hands to investigate the situation fully. What I did not calculate was Fleet Admiral Heihachiro Nogura becoming involved. Given his authority I believe the Remus System will be locked down and captured immediately.
On a more personal note, I do not look forward to dealing with the Fleet Admiral once again. My last meeting with him was disagreeable to say the least…

Stardate 2279.199, Starbase 15, NCC-1701 U.S.S. Enterprise
Admiral Danzo Shimura was sitting in a Flag Officer's room under guard aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise. Admiral James T. Kirk was sitting with him. Colonel Hubert Dowling was in the brig. "You pushed it too far Shimura." said Kirk. "I knew you wanted a war but I never thought you'd sink to this level. The Remus System is in lockdown as we speak."
"I underestimated that boy Naruto." said Danzo. "I should have known better than to try to cover it up."
"Then why did you do it Shimura?" asked the younger Admiral.
Danzo answered, "Politics Kirk. Politics."

Federation Space, NCC-1602 U.S.S. Wolverine
The fast cruiser Wolverine was streaking along at warp factor 10 enroute to Starbase 1 in the Sol System. They had received a fleetwide transmission that the Remus System was off limits to all personnel until further notice. Despite the cancelled shore leave morale was high knowing the Remus System was locked down and the bioweapon operation was being exposed. The medical staff in particular was thrilled.

Naruto was lying in bed with his beautiful redheaded mate Alison. They'd been making love all night and now were talking to each other mentally as she laid her head on his chest. 'I knew that Shimura tried to butter us up with that trip to Risa but did he really think it would work?' she asked.
'He tried to mollify me as well but our plan to expose the bioweapon operation was already in motion before we even left the Remus System.' answered the blonde. 'My concern is Fleet Admiral Nogura.'
'What's he going to do, fire us all for doing the right thing?' questioned Alison unrepentantly.
Naruto squeezed her gently. 'You are so flippant Alison; it is one of the many reasons I love you.'
'I love you too Naruto M'Fau.' replied the redhead. Then she smiled and said, 'You can be so devious…'

Stardate 2279.207, Sol System, NCC-1602 U.S.S. Wolverine
After a rapid but otherwise uneventful voyage, the Wolverine and her crew entered the Sol System and were hailed by Federation Starbase 1. "This is Federation Spacedock Control to NCC-1602 U.S.S. Wolverine. Welcome to Starbase 1. Standby to receive navigation instructions to enter Spacedock." said a male voice.
"This is U.S.S. Wolverine to Spacedock Control." replied M'rella. "We are standing by."
"Transmitting navigation instructions now Wolverine. Dock at Berth 5." replied Spacedock control.
The instructions went directly to the helm and Rafi nodded. "Navigation instructions received. We will dock at Berth 5 Spacedock."
"Take us in at one quarter impulse power Lieutenant Rafi." said Naruto. Then he added "Show them how it's done."
The Trill woman grinned, "Aye sir."
Within minutes NCC-1602 U.S.S. Wolverine slid neatly into Berth 5 directly across from her brand new sistership NCC-1605 U.S.S. Gryphon*① under Captain Lawrence H. Styles*② at Berth 10.
After they completed docking, M'rella turned to Naruto with a perplexed look on her face. "We are being hailed by the U.S.S. Gryphon. Captain Styles says he wishes to speak with you."
Naruto raised an eyebrow and said, "Put it on screen."
A man in his fifties with brown hair and a moustache appeared on screen. "So, you are Captain Naruto of the famous U.S.S. Wolverine. It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance. I am Captain Lawrence H. Styles, commanding officer of the U.S.S. Gryphon. I hope you are ready for a little competition on who is fastest ship in the Navy. I have one of the best engineering staffs in Starfleet."
Commander Kumo had a flat look of disbelief on her face and Rafi wanted to growl. Samui mentally said to her mate, 'Say something to that pompous arse Naruto! His dissing the Wolverine!' Shizuka mirrored Samui's mental comments with a few more expletives in her thoughts.
Naruto said, "Then I wish you the best of luck in your endeavors Captain Styles. Given I designed the Fast Cruiser Class I realize the Wolverine can go faster than our current speed records."
Styles eyes widened. "You designed the Fast Cruisers? But my Chief Engineer said the shipwright behind the class invented Hot Warp!"
"Your Chief Engineer is correct." said the blonde. "The Curved Transitional Warp Theory is my creation. As I said Captain Styles, best of luck catching us. U.S.S. Wolverine out." The screen went blank.
"What an arrogant, self-righteous ass!" said Lieutenant Commander Whitaker after the communication ended. "The Wolverine is the finest ship in the 3rd Fleet. We'll blow past Styles like he's standing still!"
Seeing everyone nod in agreement, Mabui said, "Well, at least that's settled. Was that a swagger stick Captain Styles had in his hand?"
Alison grinned. "I think he has a very high opinion of himself. It would be a shame if we had to drag his self-image through the mud."
"Hopefully it won't come to that." said Naruto with a glint of humor in his eyes. "We have enough enemies as it is…"

Stardate 2279.213, Sol System, Starbase 1
The Fast Cruiser U.S.S. Wolverine had been in temporary lockdown while Starfleet Intelligence went through her logs and took statements from the officers and crew. The Hospital Ship U.S.S. Sanctuary arrived two days later and was undergoing the same examination.
Then the U.S.S. Enterprise arrived with Admiral Danzo Shimura and Colonel Hubert Dowling aboard. The old Admiral seemed defeated but Dowling was enraged that Naruto pulled a fast one on him. The blonde Vulcan went down to see the incarcerated Colonel at Admiral Kirk's request…

Naruto was let into the holding cell that Hubert Dowling was in. The Marine Colonel glared hatefully at the whiskered blonde, "You gave your word."
"I left the Remus System just as we agreed Colonel Dowling." said Naruto. "There were no stipulations about contacting Starfleet intelligence."
"You disobeyed a direct order from Admiral Shimura to keep quiet about it." accused the Colonel.
The blonde replied, "I had already transmitted the data before the orders from Admiral Shimura came through. Technically my crew and I didn't break a single regulation."
"You Vulcan bastard…" growled Dowling. "You destroyed years of bioweapon research with your actions."
Naruto stared the Marine in the eye. "No, I exposed an illegal operation and captured a traitor to the United Federation of Planets. Your experimentation could have wiped out that entire world's population if we hadn't intervened."
"We could have developed a counteragent ourselves given a bit of time." defended the Colonel.
"…And how many lives would have been lost if Captain Terrill hadn't contacted us?" asked the blonde.
Dowling said, "Our losses would have been acceptable. The Admiral should have ignored that message instead of sending you in. We had an understanding with Shimura that he would stay out of our business in the Remus System."
Naruto raised an eyebrow. "And what was Admiral Shimura getting in return?"
Hubert smiled meanly. "He had his own black projects that needed funding. You can pry that information out of the old man."
…
In the meantime; Admiral Danzo Shimura was recounting events to an investigator. "First and foremost, I want to say everything I did was to help protect the United Federation of Planets. I am a patriot, not a villain…"
"…Over the past several years I was able to amass a fortune in wealth and raw materials to fund the future war effort with the help of the Marines in the Remus System…"
"…I've been at odds with Commodore Kosnett and I believe Fleet Admiral Nogura had him in that position specifically to foil me…"
"…I knew we needed a battlestation in the Alpha Regency System to counter the Klingon threat and set things into motion with the Kublai Incident*③ on Planet Orig. I intended to make them a Federation Protectorate, but it almost backfired because of the actions of Captain Jason Stanis. Luckily the situation was diffused diplomatically by Captain Naruto of the U.S.S. Wolverine."
"The net result is a brand new battlestation being constructed in orbit of Alpha Regency V. I was pleased and felt it was a major victory for our defenses. It also was a lynchpin to fortifying the surrounding systems with several off the record bases that were marked as supply points…"
"…The situation with the Machu*④ was something I intended to exploit in the future and once again I was able to utilize Captain Naruto's skills as a diplomat to set them up in the Cherubim System. It would have taken time but using the Steel City as a base would have tremendous strategic value…"
Danzo went on for several hours recounting his reasoning and future plans for the Klingon Front as well as his connections with the Remus System. "I had no idea about the bioweapons being developed there. I knew that the Remus System was shrouded in secrecy but agreed to turn a blind eye to it."
"However, when Marine Captain Terrill sent out a distress call, I couldn't ignore it. I thought it was some sort of plague and dispatched my fastest ship to Remus IX immediately. I never imagined that mercy mission would result in my undoing…"
"…I tried to put a lid on it knowing that my black projects could be exposed and tried to manipulate Captain Naruto into keeping quiet, but he and his crew already reported things to Starfleet Command. By that point it was already too late. When Fleet Admiral Nogura's errand boy Admiral Kirk showed up I knew it was already over…"

Stardate 2279.214, Sol III, San Francisco, United States, Starfleet Headquarters
As the evidence flowed in, Fleet Admiral Heihachiro Nogura was talking with Commander Mabui Kumo about a certain Captain Naruto M'Fau. Nogura said, "Mabui, I'm considering taking Captain Naruto under my wing like I did with Jim Kirk but I get the impression he may prefer to forge his own path. The Think Tank as a group is just as Commandant Pye predicted. From your reports they are brilliant as individuals but as a group they are just about unstoppable."
Mabui smiled at the Admiral and said, "Keeping them together as a group was one of the best decisions you ever made sir."
"What I'm trying to do is get a grasp of Naruto's character." said Nogura. "I've put him under a lot of pressure and I know he won't let his guard down around me."
She laughed. "With all due respect sir, I still haven't pried the story about you and the Chiefs of Staff dressing him down other than it was unpleasant."
Heihachiro chuckled, "We woke up a sleeping dragon that day. For that boy to defend his crew and his ship the way he did… Most officers would have curled up in a ball and begged for mercy. He's made of sterner stuff than you imagine Mabui."
"Captain Naruto never asks anyone to do anything he won't do himself." said the Commander. "He's quite dynamic and inspiring when he wants to be. Naruto is very harsh upon himself though. I believe he is his own worst critic."
"So, he second guesses himself?" asked the Fleet Admiral.
"No, he simply reflects and learns from his experiences, so he does better the next time." explained Mabui. "Captain Naruto is confident in his abilities but isn't arrogant. On the other hand, he is extremely crafty and cunning when he wants to be. Actually, that describes the entire Think Tank quite well."
"Well, that gives me some idea of what I'm dealing with Mabui." said Nogura. "I'm going to be talking to him a bit about his recent actions and I want him to understand that he did the right thing even if it was a bit unorthodox the way he did it."

Starbase 1, Berth 5, NCC-1602 U.S.S. Wolverine
Naruto was talking with Amelia Whitaker in his Ready Room. "I owe Admiral Shimura a lot sir, he helped shape me into the officer I am today." said Amelia. "I hope they aren't too harsh upon him."
The Captain replied, "I understand your point of view Commander but he committed many crimes using the possibility of an upcoming war as an excuse. He will be judged like anyone else in his position that abused his authority."
"I don't know what to do sir." explained the Lieutenant Commander.
"You must tell the absolute truth before the board of enquiry Whitaker." said Naruto. "I realize it will be uncomfortable for you but it must be done. After this is over, I am willing to give you an excellent fitness report if you wish to transfer off of the Wolverine."
"Transfer off…? Heavens no!" exclaimed Amelia. "This is the finest ship and crew in the 3rd Fleet. I'd be a fool to transfer!"
The blonde Vulcan nodded. "It is good to hear you feel that way Commander. If there is nothing else, you are dismissed." 'It seems her loyalties are finally with the ship.'

Stardate 2279.216, Starfleet Headquarters, Offices of Fleet Admiral Heihachiro Nogura
Captain Naruto took a Starbase 1 shuttlecraft down to Starfleet Headquarters answering a summons from Fleet Admiral Heihachiro Nogura. He was to report alone. The blonde wasn't looking forward to it at all.

Flashback…
Commander Kumo said, "The old man is in favor of your actions Captain. He can be a real pussycat once you get to know him."
Naruto stared at his First Officer as if she'd grown a second head. "My observations of his character indicate otherwise."
"Seriously Captain, just be your charming self and everything will be fine." said Mabui.
Flashback end…

'Charming self she says…' grumbled Naruto mentally as he was led into the office by a yeoman to sit in the secretary's office and wait for the Fleet Admiral to summon him.
"So, you are Captain Naruto." said a Lieutenant Commander as he came out of the Fleet Admiral's office. "I'm Commander Nicholas Troya. Call me Nick. It's a pleasure to meet you. I'm a tactical combat analyst. I'd love to talk to you a bit about your strategies once you finish with Admiral Nogura." He motioned towards the many medals on Naruto's dress uniform. "It's not every day I get to meet someone who holds the Grankite Order of Tactics."
'Assuming I still have a job after meeting with the Fleet Admiral.' thought the blonde dourly. "We'll see if we can make arrangements Commander."
"The Fleet Admiral will see you now Captain Naruto." said the secretary pleasantly. Naruto's eyes crackled with chakra as he stood up with the aura of a war god and nodded grimly. The secretary quailed a bit and said "H-head right in sir."
Commander Troya quickly stepped aside as the blonde Vulcan marched passed him. 'Whoa. He's ready for war. Does he not like the old man?'

Nogura saw Naruto stalk in like a Le Matya and thought, 'It seems the boy is on the defensive. I'll have to calm him down a bit.' "Welcome Captain Naruto. Have a seat. It is good to see you under better circumstances than our last meeting. I've been reading over the masses of reports on the Remus System and it seems you've exposed quite a conspiracy. Nicely done."
"I've prepared a full verbal report Fleet Admiral." said Naruto.
"That won't be necessary Captain." replied Nogura. "I've already read your very detailed written report. I simply had a few things I wanted to clarify with you…"

Naruto spoke with Nogura for 90 minutes about his reasoning Remus System and certain decisions that he made. The Fleet Admiral asked about Naruto's views on Danzo Shimura's command structure and what should be done at Starbase 15 about the conspiracy going on.
After a lengthy interview, the Admiral had one more question. "What would you think about serving on my staff Captain? I could use a man like you."
The blonde said, "My place is on the Wolverine sir."
"I understand Captain." said Nogura. "If there is nothing else then you are dismissed."
Naruto couldn't leave the office fast enough…

Starbase 1, Berth 5, NCC-1602 U.S.S. Wolverine
The stressed-out Captain M'Fau returned to the Wolverine via transporter as soon as he could. Commander Kumo reported to the transporter room as he arrived. Seeing Naruto materialize on the transporter pad, Mabui said, "I trust all went well sir?"
Kloene was at the transporter control station and asked, "Do we still have jobs Naruto?"
Mabui sweat dropped and Naruto replied, "We still have jobs Kloene. The Admiral was more …amiable than last time."
"I thought your meeting would be a positive one Captain. The Fleet Admiral was in a good mood when I spoke with him." stated Commander Kumo. "I think you've impressed him."
"He asked me to join his staff." said the blonde. Kloene almost choked.
Mabui's green eyes widened in surprise. "That's marvelous sir!"
Then Naruto replied smoothly. "I'd sooner jump out an airlock."
The Commander's jaw dropped but Kloene burst into hysterics. "Bwahahaha! Thank god you haven't lost your Vulcan humor! What did you really tell him?"
"I told him my place was aboard the Wolverine." answered Naruto.
Mabui was warding off a headache. "I almost had a heart attack Captain."
Naruto just gave a ghost of a smile…

Stardate 2279.218, Starbase 1, Berth 5, NCC-1602 U.S.S. Wolverine
Two days later, Lieutenant Commander Nicholas Troya came aboard the U.S.S. Wolverine after making arrangements to tour the ship with Commander Kumo. Mabui was curious about the younger man and asked, "So you are a tactical combat analyst, Commander? If you are interested in unusual tactics you've come to the right ship."
Nick nodded excitedly. "I've studied Captain Naruto's strategies and tactics going back to his time as a cadet. The Battle of the Void Asteroid Belt*⑤ against the Romulans is simply astounding!"
The mocha skinned woman said, "I'm sure you know this, but Captain Naruto couldn't have done that without an outstanding crew."
"Yes, the Think Tank members are legends at Starfleet Academy." said Troya. "I was a first year they had just graduated. We all wanted to be elites like them."
Kumo raised her eyebrows, "I've never heard of any of them ever refer to themselves as elites …Then again almost every one of them has multiple doctorates."

Bridge
The crew was busy with upgrades throughout the ship and Naruto was on the bridge with Rear Admiral Lucien Tolm of the Starfleet Bureau of Design & Repair. The aging Admiral was there doing a spot inspection on the ship's upgrades but his real reason for being there was to talk to Naruto about the detail design on the NX-2000 project.
Tolm was smiling. "So, you've had six Admirals aboard at different times doing inspections since you arrived? Hah! That's what you get for having a famous ship and crew Captain Naruto."
"I could do without fame Admiral." replied the blonde. "I will be pleased to join you and your staff tomorrow to discuss things in detail though."
"Excellent Captain, I'll see you at 12:00 hours tomorrow at the Bureau." said the Rear Admiral. "In the meantime, keep up the excellent work here."

Commander Kumo arrived in the turbolift with Lieutenant Commander Nicholas Troya in tow shortly after Admiral Tolm departed.
Mabui said, "Captain Naruto, do you have time for an interview with Lieutenant Commander Troya now?"
The Vulcan really didn't have a lot of time but had already agreed to see Commander Troya so the blonde motioned to his Ready Room and said, "Follow me, we can speak in my Ready Room."

Nick Troya was very excited to talk to Naruto about tactics and strategies in various scenarios but the battle in the Oberth against the Romulan Squadron was the foremost in Troya mind. "I studied the Battle of the Void Asteroid Belt in detail and even published some papers on it. It was simply fantastic the way you handled the U.S.S. Oberth against overwhelming odds. Did you know that your battle reports are required reading at the Starfleet Academy now?"
"I was not aware that my battle reports were in the curriculum." replied Naruto. 'For some reason I find that disturbing.'
"Yes sir. I found them quite illuminating both as a Cadet and as an officer." said Lieutenant Commander Troya. "As a combat analyst I've seen simulations of the battle countless times. It never ceases to amaze me."
Mabui thought humorously to herself, 'It seems that Lieutenant Commander Troya has a bit of hero worship going on. I think the Captain is dumbfounded.'
The was when the heard a knock on the door. "Enter." said Naruto with a tiny bit of relief in his voice.
Shizuka came in holding a datapad and said, "I have the security personnel fitness reports Captain."
Troya was totally lovestruck. He stood up and laid on the charm. "Hello there beautiful. Where have you been all my life?"
Mabui stared in total disbelief. Naruto said as he accepted the pad, "Thank you for the reports, Security Chief Nadeshiko. I'll be reviewing them shortly."
"Aye sir." replied Shizuka. She gave Nick a death glare that made him recoil. Then the Earth raised Vulcan did an about face and left.
"Wow she's hot." said the Lieutenant Commander. "How do I transfer aboard the U.S.S. Wolverine?"
Naruto wanted to growl territorially but said, "I'm afraid that's all the time we have Mister Troya. Commander Kumo, please have him escorted off the ship."
"Aye, Captain." answered Mabui. 'I'll find Lieutenant Shores...'
