Title: Ideals
Author: Eeevee
Series: Legend of Duo

Disclaimer: If it had been mine, I would have done the job it deserved on it. Beautiful characters, beautiful design, beautiful story, but too short and poorly animated.

Purana…
Why. Why?
Zieg didn't get it; he just didn't.
Why did Duo do that? Why did the child-like vampire tease and tempt the humans with salvation, only to jerk it out of reach. It was simply cruel. Not only that but it made all vampires targets for hordes of desperate humans who believed it.
It was like Duo had wanted to be exiled, as if he knew Zieg would be the one sent to dispatch him for his crimes. It fell to the son to pay for the deeds of the sire. Perhaps that was just as cruel to him as what Duo had done to the humans. But he was different; he was an exception, an exemption.
Sometimes, as a human, he felt that if he could take on all the miseries of the world, he would. Or even the suffering of one other being…
The day he met the beautiful, china doll figure… that beautiful stranger… that had ended those foolish fantasies.
Could he defeat Duo?
His anger said so. He was deeply enraged by the game Duo played. Enough to make it a serious, deadly fight when he finally found the older vampire.
But was that enough?
He wondered sometime, when he paused long enough to think about it.
Duo had centuries of experience over him. He knew his strengths and weaknesses well enough to control his power flawlessly. He also knew Zieg. Knew him inside and out, as a vampire and as a man. Yet, it was because of that he held a chance against the older vampire. Duo would always hesitate to harm him, even if only for a moment in time. It had to be enough.
He ignored the crowd that milled around him. There was no trouble right now, and that was how he liked it. Stopping to help would only delay his mission. And hurt his non-existant heart in the most painful way.
Why did Duo save him? Save him and leave the others to die.
He never understood it.
Why would you save a complete stranger? Well, he would, but he had always viewed himself as the old one out.
He seethed in a bitter coldness.
Why wouldn't Duo stop saving him?
He didn't need to be saved from himself!
It was getting colder as the sun set, but Zieg paid no mind to the chill. It didn't affect him anymore. It only seemed to intensify his dark mood. The few people out skittered and skirted around the lone figure stalking down the middle of the street and behind a few hands the word 'vampire' was uttered.
He should have died that day. He didn't want to die, but he should have. Of cold, blood loss, and exhaustion. But Duo saved him. He couldn't save the dead, only the damned. For those gone he grew a beautiful field of flowers that bloomed overnight in the rich mud and bodies.
Then, faster than Zieg could comprehend, he was slated to die again. Yet, again, Duo intervened, neatly destroying the one under his command. For a stranger. For Zieg. The once-man remembered wondering who appointed him to play God, choosing on life over the other.
Ten or so dark men clustered around with weapons in hand. They had grim, craggy faces that were filled with harsh reality. They encircled him like a pack of wary, feral dogs who hadn't the courage just yet to attack. They were leaderless; mobs generally were.
Who appointed him to play God?
He idly wondered that as he disarmed and dispatched the men. No matter how he tried, he realized that he would always make the mobs fail miserably. The only thing he could do was give up his body…
But that was a human ideal, and it was one he couldn't give into.
Not yet.
Not until he found Duo and completed his mission.
