Squatting close to the ground, Kakashi examined a spot on the asphalt that might have once been a duck. He scratched his bushy grey hair and sighed. Whatever it was, it wasn't a duck anymore.
"It's dead," he announced to Sasuke.
The teenager slumped in the driver's seat of Kakashi's BMW, wishing very hard that he could disappear. It had been bad enough that he had hit and killed a duck during his very first time behind the wheel, but it was even worse that Kakashi had insisted on pulling over and making a big show of checking if the duck had survived. And that wasn't even taking into account Naruto's snickering in the backseat, or the particular tint of pink that colored Sakura's cheeks in empathy.
"Alright," snapped Sasuke. "You can get back in the car already."
Kakashi chuckled. "Sorry, sorry."
His lack of seriousness only irritated Sasuke further, causing him to tighten his grip on the steering wheel.
When he hit the horn accidently and it startled both Naruto and Sakura, Sasuke felt his cheeks flush. But nothing that had happened that day so far could rival how embarrassed he felt when Kakashi suggested that maybe he should calm down and let someone else take over the wheel for now.
