(Previously posted as "We're out of Milk" I changed & altered, revamped the name and content, nearlytoreit upcos I hated it)
Neela sat up, all cosy under her quilt. Her bed is Abby's couch. She raised her brows taking another mouthful of cheerio's. Savouring the taste of her breakfast with her eyes fixated at the television screen. Watching some trashy morning chat show. She wiped her pyjama sleeve across her smiling face after managing to drip milk from the spoon on to her chin.
Neela is distracted by the turn of the handle from the bedroom door. Abby stumbled out of her room, trying to look through her sleepy eyes. Looking exhausted after doing 36-straight hours from her shift ended the night before. Her long hair is entangled and her eyes are smudged from the mascara.
Abby grumbled "Morning"
"Morning!" Neela replied in her cheery in British accent.
Abby walked to the table and opened her bag. She removed a box of cigarettes from it. Opened the packet and looked inside. Empty. Abby muttered a swear word under her breath. Threw the empty box in the trashcan.
Abby shook her head trying to wake up reaching for the coffee pot. Grabbed a mug from the cupboard. With the other hand she picked up the pot and poured the steaming hot black liquid in to it. She turned to open the fridge and removed the milk carton from inside the door. Her leverage pulled up quick from the lightness of the container. She shook the emptiness and curled her top lip with disappointment.
"Oh by the way. We're out of milk again" Neela announced sipping the last drop of milk in her cereal bowl.
Abby turned and looked at her friend getting up from the couch. Blinking hard at Neela, signalling her that is she is not at all impressed. Neela looked back with a shrug placing her dish in the sink.
"Another trip to work on an empty stomach!" Abby moaned.
"Like they say. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day," Neela chirped innocently.
"Oh really? I didn't know that!" Abby said sarcastically, putting her hands on her waist.
Neela smiled at Abby's distinctive idiosyncrasy. Sarcasm
"Jeez. I would love to have breakfast but some little minx in my apartment keeps taking all the milk!" Shaking her head and rubbed her forehead trying to calm down from her annoyance. "Neela you have been here a little while now, I should expect you do the fair share buying the groceries"
"We're never here"
"I don't care whether we're here or not" Abby protested, raising her hands up. She leaned her backside against the work surface "I don't want to turn up at work all cranky cos my blood sugar level's low"
"I know. I'll do you a deal I'll make you breakfast for a month" Neela chuckled at her own idea.
"That'll be the first" Abby arched her brows in surprise "I'm gonna get a shower"
Abby headed to the bathroom and kicked the door from behind. Neela winced feeling guilty. The bathroom door opened. Abby popped her head out.
"You can make me some toast"
She pushed the door to. Just before it shuts firmly, Abby shouted, "That's if there is any bread left!"
