Ravens brother part 3
Chapter 3-
Swift vengeance
And incontrollable grief
"RAVEN!" Beast boy screamed at the top of his lungs and tried to run to her aid, Cinderblock promptly shoulder barged him for his trouble, Beast boy flew about ten feet and landed in a heap on the floor of the vault, Cinderblock's face twisted into a victorious grin and he let out a roar of victory, he had single handedly took out two of the teen titans, something even Slade had failed to do. However the golem's victory was premature.
Beast boy had rose to his feet, Cinderblock's laughter cutting through him like a knife, a look appeared in his eyes that none of the titans thought they would ever see there. Pure hatred. Quick as a flash Beast boy changed into an ankylosauras (a herbivorous dinosaur (it ate plants) with a large bony club on the end of its tail) and smashed his tail into Cinderblocks chest with enormous force, a large crack appeared and he was knocked to the ground, he was defeated but Beast boy didn't care, he kept smashing his tail into Cinderblock again and again, damaging him further and further until only a pile of pebbles and dust were what remained of Cinderblock. Beast boy morphed back into human from and turned to look at Plasmus. Plasmus had seen what happened to Cinderblock and had no desire to join him, the repulsive blob let out a high-pitched squeal and turned and fled towards the vault's exit, oozing through the fine mesh of it's security door (the door had come down after the titans had arrived), dropping all the jewels and gold he had sucked up. With the villains gone the Titans turned their attention to their fallen comrade.
"Friend Raven are you alright?" Starfire asked her fallen friend,
"She can't hear you Star" Cyborg answered in a hollow voice his blue sensors playing over Ravens still form
"and I don't think she ever will",
"Cyborg how bad is it?" Robin asked.
"Not good man, according to my sensors she's sustained a fractured skull, a broken wrist and a very severe concussion. We need to get her to the hospital and fast".
"O.K Star, you carry her and Beast boy will go with you, me and Cyborg will follow you in the t-car since Star can get her there way faster than we can",
"Agreed?" he asked,
"Agreed" came the reply in unison, well one titan didn't reply. Beast boy had just stood there, his arms hanging limply by his side, his gaze going from the remains of Cinderblock to Ravens still form and back again.
"Beast boy do you agree?" Robin asked. She's gone, Beast boy thought, gone all because of me, Beast boy felt a hand being placed on his shoulder,
"Beast boy", Robins voice brought him out of his trance.
"Uh yeah dude I agree" and with that the Titans departed, Starfire holding Raven in her arms, Beast boy following her as a peregrine falcon, the only bird that could keep up with the tamarainian when she flew at top speed and Robin and Cyborg leaping into the t-car, which was parked outside and sped off toward the hospital at top speed.
The Titans were all sat in the private waiting room, waiting for an update on the condition of their friend; Raven had been placed onto a crash trolley and taken away for a C.A.T and C.T scan as soon as she arrived. Robin was sat down on a yellow sofa, against the far wall, Starfire was sat with him, her head resting on Robins chest, both were dozing lightly, Cyborg was sat in a armchair, idly playing solitaire on his wrist monitor, it was clear he wasn't putting much attention into his game. And Beast boy was pacing up and down the width of the room, his arms behind his back, deep in thought. The door opened and an important looking doctor walked in. All the titans stood up as he entered.
"So doc what's going on?" Robin asked, a hint of nervousness in his voice.
"Well the outlook isn't very good for your friend, her broken wrist and fractured skull are only superficial and should heal quickly" this news was greeted by, sighs of relief from the Titans.
"But it's the concussion were worried about",
"Why" Cyborg inquired, his voice clearly worried.
"Well Raven has gone into a coma due to the massive blow to the back of her head and it's unlikely she'll ever awaken. I'm sorry".
As soon as those words left his mouth a rush of tears, sobs and moans filled the room. Starfire buried her head in Robin's chest, her bright green eyes awash with tears, sobbing uncontrollably her tears running down the front of Robin's uniform, staining it dark. Robin put his arms around Starfire his own tears running out from under his mask. Cyborg let out a short gasp, the coke can in his hand slipping lose and falling to the floor, its dark contents spilling out, a sharp contrast to the soft green of the waiting room's carpeted floor, a few stray tears sliding down from his human eye, down his cheek and onto the floor, mixing with the spilled soft drink. Beast boy just stood there for a few seconds, his eyes wide, then his bottom lip started to quiver and he let out a tortured scream that turned the stomachs of everyone who heard it, then he collapsed onto the floor, his face resting on his arms, his mournful, grief-wrecked sobs cutting through everyone who heard them like a knife through butter. After a few, terrible minutes for the remaining Titans, Robin was able to control his grief long enough to ask the doctor
"So what happens now?" the doctor himself physically shaken struggled to reply,
"Well as it's clear we can do nothing more for her we are left with only two options.
"And those would be?"
"Firstly to simply switch her off, that is to disconnect the life support that is keeping her alive, but I doubt you want that to be done",
"Too right" Robin replied defiantly,
"And the second one", the doctor continued.
"Well the second option is to release her into your care, assuming you can care for her properly"
"We can," replied Robin,
"Good then all that is left to do is arrange transport and notify the next of kin, as she is clinically dead, oh and I'll need to accompany her as she's being transported", Robin looked surprised
"I didn't think the hospital arranged transport" the doctor smiled and replied "no and I'm not supposed to release her either", Robin looked curious
"Then why are you",
"Because last year that girl saved my granddaughters life when those two weird boys wrecked everything down town". Robin smiled remembering the incident with Thunder and Lightning.
At sunrise the next morning a medical chopper took off from the hospital's helipad with the comatose Raven, Robin, Cyborg and the doctor inside it. Starfire and Beast boy (as a eagle) flew alongside the chopper like a guard of honour, escorting their fallen comrade back to her home. After twenty minutes the chopper landed on the helipad on the roof of Titans tower and Raven was quickly transferred to a bed in the Titans infirmary the doctor then left to check everything was ready for the return chopper journey. Once all the Titans were gathered around they all looked at each other once then their gazes fell to the floor. Al was quiet for a few minutes then Beast boy collapsed into another fit of tears. Robin lent down, placed his hand on Beast boys shoulder and spoke calmly in his ear.
"Beast boy calm down it's O.K now, she's back at the tower with us" Beast boy stopped crying to reply
"No it's not and why BECAUSE OF YOU!" Beast boy roared and he leapt on Robin, knocking him to the ground, punching the boy wonder as hard as he could
"YOU SHOULD HAVE SAVED HER, YOU SHOULD HAVE BUT YOU DIDN'T AND NOW RAVEN'S ALL BUT DEAD BECAUSE OF YOU" after about a minute his blows began to weaken and he began to degenerate into a fit of sobs. Starfire put her arms around him and he cried for a few more minutes, stopping only a few seconds before the doctor walked in.
"Well I'm almost done here, I just need to announce her next of kin and them I'll go and leave you in peace", the doctor looked at the back of his records and a surprise look crossed his face.
"Wait this can't be right",
"Why doc what's wrong the next of kin should be one of us shouldn't it?" Cyborg asked. The doctor shook his head
"Well according to this her next of kin is a brother, a Drajo Langa from Dargthar in Romania" Robin jumped up
"That's impossible," he yelled,
"Raven doesn't have and brothers or sisters, she's an only child". The doctor shrugged and said,
"Well it says here that it's true and it can't be mistake as there is even a contact number here". Robin said
"Can you give us the number?" the doctor replied,
"Yes here it is" and held out a sheet of paper to Robin who said
"Thank you". The doctor straightened up and said
"My pleasure goodbye and good look sorting this problem out" and with that he turned around and left the room, heading to the chopper on the roof. The Titans stood looking at each other for a few minutes, unsure of what to do, finally Cyborg said
"Why don't we just call this Drajo and see what he has to say about all this" Robin looked up and said
"I agree and who knows this guy may be able to help Raven and if he can't and he is Ravens brother than we may be able to replenish our ranks". Robin looked at the other Titans
"Agreed?"
"Agreed" came the reply; Robin walked over to the Titans computer station in the infirmary and punched in the number. The number belonged to a cell phone, located in western Romania. After a few rings it was answered, a male voice with an eastern European accent came through
"Hello, who is this?"
"This is Robin, leader of the teen Titans I'm guessing you've heard of us Drajo" the voice answered back sounding a little calmer but still nervous,
"Yes I have, Ravens told me all about you", Robin answered in a firmer voice
"Then it would upset you to know she's in a coma, at deaths door" ("Robin where is this door of death? I cannot see it" Starfire asked innocently, "I'll tell you in a minute Star" Robin replied).
This time the voice sounded very worried
"Oh no I should've guessed something was wrong, she hasn't gone this long without contacting me before, I'm coming over there, I'll leave immediately" Robin looked surprised
"Do you need co-ordinates?" he asked the voice,
"No Ravens told me where your tower is, I'll find it but it'll take me a couple of days to get there" it replied,
"Why don't you just take a plane, that way it will only take hours not days?" a dry laugh was heard at the other end of the phone
"I see my sister never told you about me, you'll see why when you see me with your own eyes. I'll be on my way, I'll see you in a couple of days" and with that the mysterious voice hung up. Robin looked at the other titans and shrugged,
"Well I guess all we can do now is wait" he said and hope he added silently.
