On the inside she's dying, lying to herself, thinking:
"five more pounds won't jeopardize my health"
One day she might just collapse, she can't avoid it.
You're suddenly very scared… you can't lift your head and you know that's not right.
Jou's watching you, like a good brother should. Watching as your head slips out of your palms and hits the desk, watches as your chest moves oh so shallowly, watches as your pretty face creases with distress.
"Serenity?" His whispers skitter around inside your head, and you lift your heavy eye lids and look up at him. "You look pale… are you okay?"
"I-I…" What were you going to say? Can't you remember anymore? You're at school, right? No… its to dark to be school…
And you are far to sick to realize you've just passed out, or that Jou is suddenly terrified for you.
"Serenity? Serenity? Sir, can I taker her-"
"To the nurse, yes Jounouchi, go…" the teacher waves you both off without interest. He's used to it after all, he knows what happens to sleepy pale girls that are far to thin…
"Serenity…" You're head throbs and your stomach aches horribly. There's something yanking you forcefully back out of the dark…
And suddenly all the black is replaced with white… and your sitting cradled in your brother's arms. The light in the nurses office burns into you head and you groan.
"Hey sweetheart…" his voice is so sad you want to hold him… but right now you cant lift up your arms to easily.
"I'm sorry…" you're used to saying it by now, you know you must have done something wrong.
"Don't say sorry… here, you looked starved so I uhh…" he presses a messily wrapped burger into your fingers, and the smell of it makes your head spin.
"N-no, I cant, I mean, I-"
"What do you mean you cant?"
And your stuck because you cant explain… because that would mean admitting to him and yourself what's going on, and your not ready to do that.
"Thanks…" It feels a little like betrayal, because if you eat this you might not be able to fit into that little red dress he bought you… but mostly it just feels good, as you chew and swallow and god not even Seto's gourmet cooking had ever tasted so good.
(Not that he had cooked for you in a long, long while)
"Mmmm…"
"Good thing I hot stuck in your history class huh? Least one good thing came outta me re-taking that class…Man, you were really starving…" concern glitters in Jou's golden eyes.
"Uhhh I forgot breakfast, that's all…"
As you eat you know later your going to have to pay for it, but when cradled against your brother's chest and wrapped in his warmth, you find it hard to worry.
"Uhh Jou…."
"Yeah?"
"I love you…" the words come out easy. His smile's so bright you cant help but smile back. Giggles bubble from your lips as you feel how contagious joy can be.
"I love you too…"
As your licking the mayonnaise off your fingers and feeding the last bite to Jou, you realize this is one of your favorite places to be.
