Hello! And thank you for being-about-to read my story! I hope I actually finish this one without to many writer's blocks.
I'm still trying to think up a name for this story, so suggestions are very welcome and reviews are loved!
Disclaimer: I don't own any of the original characters from the Inuyasha series. Obviously the ones I made up are sort of mine, but I don't own them. The patents office is to annoying to go through.
Name Pending: Rated PG-13, though it may change in the future depending on audience reaction.
Chapter 1: Snow White
It was a snowy winter in the Western Lands of ancient Japan. The old oak and maple trees were bare and dark against the pristine snow. The light powder was falling lightly now, giving the wintry forest an almost ethereal and unnatural look. Suddenly there is a flash of deep green, appearing like a flash of light through non-existent leaves. It happens again, more prominent than before, this time appearing like a piece of spring out of the icy winter. But it is not a piece of spring at all, but a figure clad in a long, white cloak; white as the surrounding snow. Every so often, the cloak would fly up to reveal the deep green material under the snowy cloak.
Unseen to the world, save when the figure passed in front of a darkened tree, the loan traveler was headed towards an unknown destination. It seemed as though this silent creature was made out of the very air around it; leaving no record of being at all. No footprints, no trail from the long cloak, not even a rustle of snow or air.
Suddenly, the figure stopped and looked down; its hood pointed down. Bending low, a long-fingered and tan hand reached out from under the cloak and picked up something that was sparkling in some unseen light. Slowly, a thin silver chain rose from the snow, followed by a large, silver ring hanging from the chain. The figure held out its other hand and took the ring, holding it up to t he hood. After a few moments, the creature shook its head, letting the hood fall back to reveal a woman.
At first glance, the woman appeared to be elderly, with hair indistinguishable from the falling snow. But upon closer inspection it could be seen that her tan skin was smooth and youthful, though there was no sign of the cold on her cheeks, which were devoid of the rosy color normally associated with the cold. Her deep green eyes were bright and curious as she looked over the ring.
The ring was silver, like the chain, with a flat, black stone. On the face of the stone were characters which the woman obviously could not read. She looked quizzical as she turned the ring over, as if the characters would make more sense facing the other way. Finally giving up, the woman looked around, through the vast and seemingly empty woods, for any sign of life aside from the trees. At first it seemed in vain, but then, she pulled back a lock of hair to reveal a pointed ear that twitched from some far off stimulus.
She put the chain and ring around her neck and continued towards her new-found destination, the only thing left behind being a small indent in the powdery snow where the necklace had once been.
