A/N: This is told in Dom's POV.

Another Scanran raid, they don't seem to give up. I rode my mount into the chaos of battle and swung my sword killing off Scanran by Scanran.
More swarmed upon me and as I tried to fight them off I soon realized I had been outnumbered…
I looked up and saw Kel trying to slay off more of the raiders. I rode to her, my eyes suddenly widened in terror as I saw an archer string a bow and aim for Kel's back…
"No, Gods no!' "Kel!' I cried, my shout turning to a blood-curdling scream as I rode my horse hard toward her, my blood boiling…
Kel turned and the archer fired…
"Noooo!" another scream ripped at my throat as I charged and cut the Scanran down, turning my mount I dismounted and went to Kel's side. She lay slumped on the saddle, slipped. I caught her, holding her in my arms.
"Kel" I murmured, my voice hoarse.
"Dom" she whispred, bringing a hand up to touch my cheek.
"I'm not going to survive this…"
"No, Kel Don't say that!" I cried, suddenly feeling useless.
"But it's true" Kel insisted stubbornly.
I could feel her breath warm on my face. "Tell them" she murmured.
"Tell them what, Kel?" I struggled to hear her.
"Tell them that they were the best friends anyone could have" she said softly.
I knew who she meant and agreed.
"And Dom?"
I leaned in closer to hear her whiasper: "I love you"
"I love you too Kel" I heard myself say.
Kel's breath quickened and her body shook, I realized that she was crying.
"I should have told you sooner" she sobbed.
"No Kel, this was fine" "Hush…"
Her hand found mine and she gripped it, as if it would anchour it to the world of the Living. But as I held her to my chest I could feel she was fading from me…
And in those few precious moments I felt that I too was dying as my heart silently wept for Kel.
Neal put a hand on my shoulder and I tried to shake Kel awake but as I listened for the frail sound of her breath asnd the steady song of her heart…Both were silent.
I looked at her face and my breath caught in my throat. Kel's dreamy hazel eyes, eyes that had gazed lovingly at me only moments before, were glassy but still filled with the love she had given me. Her face so calm and hid by her mask was now cold and pale. I looked down and saw I still held her hand…
I released her hand from mine and gently I smoothed the hair from her face, closing her eyes with two trembling fingers.
I stood with Kel in my arms and shouldered past Neal.
Later that day I lay Kel in her casket and kissed her dead, unfeeling lips tenderly. She looked so peaceful…
The casket was lowered into the ground and the hole was filled in.
Mourners threw flowers at the graveand slowly turned to leave.
I was the last to go. I took a red rose and slipped an engagement ring onto the thorned stem tying it in place with a black ribbon.
Stroking the petals I tossed it ontop the grave.
