He was gentle, she remembered. Strong, and powerful, rippling through sunlight and water, and fast. She remembered the feel of flying, obstacles scattering from their path. She remembered the sound of shells, and his calming, salty smell. She remembered blood, too. Dozens of sharp teeth she didn't fear, and wounds she did. She remembered the sound of his breathing, when it was forced and painful, and when it was icy calm. She remembered her face pressed against his neck, brown hair tangling with green, and when it did, she remembered more. Back to her earliest memories. She remembered him there, too.
She remembered him in the school yard, in the puddles of rain on the asphalt and the teacher's precise instructions.
She remembered him with her neck stiff and her eyes heavy, her coffee gone cold. She remembered him on every page of her thick text books, his voice flowing through and over the words, making the phrases his own.
She remembered him later, as she filed reports before walking home, a huge, white, gentle dog trotting along beside her, his dark eyes warming her each day.
She remembered him as her time wore on, each day drawing him nearer.
She remembered him last, as nurses adjusted tubes and murmured to the few friends she had left. She remembered his promise, remembered his hand, she remembered . . . .
A/N: Hello. New to the fandom, and a little worried by it. What's with all the 'Chihiro commits suicide to be with Haku' fics? Suicide is NOT romantic, and no boy/girlfriend is worth killing yourself for. If they loved you, that last thing they'd want you to do is kill yourself. They'd be more inclined to ask what the 9th Dr. did of Rose; "Have a good life. Will you do that for me?" Anyway, that's my two cents.
Feedback is, well, largely what :)
