Heh heh heh…I'M SO SORRY I haven't updated in so long! Please don't hurt me! ((anime tears)) I had some of the chapter done; really I did, but then my computer crashed and I lost it, so I have to start from scratch!
WARNING: Spoilers ahead! If you have not read volume six or have not seen all four DVDs, there are some spoilers. So if you're like me, you'll read it anyway. But if you're a good little girl (or boy), you'll go do that now, if you haven't already.
Disclaimer: I only own…wait, I don't own anybody! ((more anime tears)) I do own my story though! Yay! ((sparkles)) But I don't own Fruits Basket or Harry Potter or Yu Yu Hakusho or Tales of Symphonia or…not that any of those things come in in this story. Except for the first two. ANYWAY, you can start reading the chapter now, if you actually took the time to read this very long disclaimer.
This chapter is dedicated to Riles and DonnieDarko, who threatened me with violence, and Artemis Moon, who guilted me into writing this next chapter. Aren't you all proud of yourselves?
Chapter Two
Mistakes
By 10:00 Hermione had finished the second and third books. She sat in her four-poster bed, thinking about how she was going to write her essay. Even to Hermione, this was going to be tough. She fell asleep, still wondering about her paper.
The Next Morning
Hermione's eyes flew open and immediately shut; the sunlight streaming through the gap in her curtains was blinding. She rolled over and looked at her clock. The red numbers glared back at her: 11:14. "Oh no!" she gasped, "I'm running so late!"
She pushed back the curtains to see Lavender Brown putting her shoes on. "Hermione! I thought you were already up! Did I wake you?" she exclaimed.
"No, Lavender, I just…forgot it's Saturday, that's all." Hermione said, shaking her head inwardly.
Still, how had she let herself sleep that late? Well, it was a moot point, Hermione decided. She hadn't missed any classes.
She decided to go to the library to do homework rather than stay in the common room; she could hear the commotion from the dorm. She quickly dressed, brushed her hair, grabbed her bag and descended the stairs to the common room.
"Hermione!" someone called. "Over here!"
She turned around. It was Harry, sitting in a corner. Hermione made her way through the crowded room, weaving around chairs, tables, and first years. Gryffindor had won a Quidditch match yesterday, putting them in the running for the Cup. The party had gone on all night, and it looked like it was still in full swing.
Finally reaching Harry, Hermione realized that he looked horrible: his hair was mussed, and he looked dead tired. "Have you been up all night?" she admonished.
Harry looked guilty. "Well, almost. I think I fell asleep somewhere between four and five."
Hermione shook her head. "Well, you should go to sleep, you know. We have a lot of homework due Monday."
"Yeah, yeah. As soon as the party's over."
"Mm." Hermione said disapprovingly. "I'm going to do my Charms homework in the library." She looked around to see Fred and George convincing first years to sign up for some of their magic-testing experiments. "It's going to get even louder in here soon. Get some rest, Harry. By the way, where's Ron?"
"Dunno. Probably still down at breakfast."
Hermione bid goodbye to Harry and walked toward the door, which was easier said than done. It took her five minutes just to get to the portrait hole (In the last two minutes, she got sick of having to walk around things and starting levitating them over her head, whether it was a desk or a chair or a student).
Finally she made it to the library. She found a quiet table and sat down, pulling out her Charms homework.
Homework: Due Wednesday.
Practice the Life Charm we did in class on Thursday. Remember, the Life Charm gives temporary life to inanimate objects. The spell, if you need any reminder, is "Bio animato". Make sure to get the wand movement right! I will expect at LEAST twelve inches worth of parchment on what you chose to animate and what happened in the time it was animated. If you do the spell right, the effects should last an hour. See you on Wednesday!
REMINDER: Do NOT attempt to animate anything that could cause serious damage to yourself, your classmates, or the castle. Good luck!
Hermione snorted. Like she was one to animate a suit of armor or a statue. Professor Flitwick had told them about one student who had brought to life one of the gargoyles outside of Dumbledore's office. In the hour that it had lived, it managed to tear out three walls, send six students to the hospital wing, and in general cause enough damage so that even Peeves would be jealous. Hermione was going to make sure that didn't happen with her. She would levitate something small, like a pencil or-- a book! That was it! She could use her new Fruits Basket book!
Hermione flipped to the back again. Inside, she saw the summery for the fourth book. She looked at the date that it was supposed to come out. "In bookstores everywhere", it said.
"What?" Hermione gasped. She could have sworn that it had said "Coming soon" last night.
Leaving her bookbag behind, she went back to the manga shelf and saw that not only was volume four there, but five, six, and seven as well. Hermione gaped. The library must update itself by magic! She got the books down and looked at them. Hatori, her personal favorite, was on the cover of volume seven. She took all four books back to her seat and promptly read them.
12:30
Hermione sat back in her chair. Having read Fruits Basket volumes 4, 5, 6, and 7 in under an hour (a feat that not even the most experienced manga readers-hell, ANY readers-could do very easily), she felt slightly exhausted, despite the good twelve hours of sleep she had gotten the night before. However, she had to do her Charms homework, so she might as well have it over and done with.
For her charm, she decided to use volume six, since it was her favorite. It had so many elements of good stories-- drama (what else would you call the whole incident with Kyo's true form?), humor ("Would you like to walk under my umbrella?"), and, of course, lots and lots of BISHOUNEN! (1)
She cleared the table, setting aside everything except the book and her wand. Clearing her throat, she grabbed her wand and clearly said the incantation. "Bio animato."
For a moment, nothing happened. Then, a wisp of grey smoke floated out of the book. It became bigger, and finally solidified into the form of-
"Akito?" Hermione gasped.
(1) Bishounenhot guy! Just in case you didn't know.
Heehee! Don't you ADORE my cliffhangers? Thank you SO much to my reviewers; I couldn't have done it without you! See you later!
