Setting: Set during Exodus Part 1, Characters: Sawyer, Claire

The sun beat down hard as Sawyer sat on the beach. The raft was finished, soon he'd be leaving with the others. Leaving the island behind. And everyone on it too. He thought about Kate. What had he ever seen in her? All she cared about was herself. Herself and that god damned doctor who everyone thinks is a hero. Maybe he is. But that doesn't mean he had to like him.
As he took a sip of water, his eyes wandered to a sea of deep blue. But it wasn't the ocean, it was Claire's eyes. She was standing on the beach, rocking her baby back and forth. Lately, ever since the baby likes the sound of his voice, he had been spending a lot of time with her. A lot of time. Almost enough time to make someone suspicious. He was begining to like her, and he didn't know what to do about it. He was surpised that Charlie wasn't around her, he always was. It might seem as a cute, innocent, relationship, but Sawyer saw right through Charlie. He didn't trust him. Not that Sawyer was to be trusted himself. Claire seemed to be having trouble calming the baby down. Within a few minutes Sawyer found himself walking over to Claire.

"Hey, Mamacita. Need some help?" he asked shielding his eyes from the burning sun.
"What?" she asked absent mindedly, clearly content on quieting her baby.
"Remember, the lil' guy likes my voice darlin"
"And I have yet to figure out why," she replied with a smile, lightening up a bit.
"Well look at that, he's already sleepin'," he said as he looked into her eyes. They were beautiful, the bluest things he'd ever seen. There was something about her, something that made him weak in the knees, something that made him remotely glad he was on this island. And something about her that made him wish he wasn't going on the raft.
"We should keep talking then, I guess. Seems to put him asleep. How's the raft coming along?" she asked with her accent. "It's comin' along I guess, Mamacita," he said softly. He meant to say more, but he was distracted by her beauty.
"Why are you going?" she asked, suddenly changing her bright, soft tone.
"Come again, blue eyes?"
"Why are you going on the raft Sawyer? Its dangerous, theres plenty of other people that could go. Why you? Do they really need you? Do they need you more than I do?" she asked stunned by what she had just said. "I mean, I need you to help me, with the baby. How would I ever get the baby to sleep without your voice?" She turned away trying to hide the single tear in her eye.
"Well, that's why you got Charlie, Mamacita, he's gotta be good for something. And besides, why would you want ol' Sawyer around. I'll just mess the brat up"
"Sawyer..." She paused, staring at him. Without thinking she kissed him. Just a quick, sweet kiss. And it was the best he'd ever had. "You don't-"
"Shh. Just make it back Sawyer. Come back safe. Come back safe for the baby. Come back safe for me," she finished the last and lightly touched his hand for a few seconds.
He tried to speak, speak out in protest, but nothing but, " I will," came out. And with that she left to put the baby asleep.

The next day, the raft was ready to sail. As everyone gather around the raft to say their goodbyes, Sawyer continually looked for Claire. He finally met her eyes. "So I guess this is goodbye, Mamacita," he spoke first.
"For now. I'll see you again, James," she spoke his name. He had told her, only two people on this island knew. And this was the one he truly cared about.
"I'll come back for you, Claire. And the baby"
"The baby," she laughed, "I still haven't come up with a name for the baby," she finished as she went to hug him.
"How about Aaron?" he whispered in her ear. "Aaron. It's perfect," she smiled. And with that, he left. He left for the raft, hoping that somehow, and in someway, he would see her again.
