Dreams
Rose was running, running for her life. Behind her she could hear the dalek getting closer. She was back at Van Statten's base, and she was terrified.
The door was shut, and she was trapped, no way out. But then she saw an opening in the wall, she leapt through it and was falling
Falling
Falling.
She hit the floor with a thump, and awoke in a cold sweat. She sat upright and tried to get her bearings. It was ok, she tried to convince herself, she was safe here.
She scrambled onto her bed and lay there a while, thinking about the events of that day. The look of relief on the doctor's face when he saw she was alive made her heart wrench with pain. How he could possibly care about the life of a pathetic ape was beyond her.
Rose's thoughts were interrupted by a series of thumps from near by. She frowned and scrambled out of bed, poking her head out her bedroom door. It sounded like someone was crying and hitting things. She frowned. Adam? Surely not, he didn't seem the type.
That left the doctor.
Rose frowned; he didn't seem the type either. She set off down the corridor towards the source of the noise and pushed the door open. What she saw made her freeze.
The doctor was thrashing around on the bad, tears running down his cheeks, muttering quietly
"No, not Rose, please, she's too young to die!"
Rose's heart filled with sorrow and she threw herself foreword and landed on top of the doctor, hugging him close. The doctor awoke with a start, and found Rose on top of him, hugging him tightly. He hugged her back fiercely.
They stayed like that a while, until Rose rolled off him and onto the bed next to him. She lay facing him, their eyes locked together
"Doctor"
"Yeah?" he answered softly
"Why… why were you so bothered when you thought I was dead? I mean, I'm nothing special. I'm just a stupid ape"
The doctor shook his head
"No your not, you're different."
She frowned
"How am I different?"
He pulled her into a hug and she snuggled against his torso
"How many apes would willingly run into a mysterious blue box with a big eared stranger?" He grinned as Rose laughed quietly
"Not many?"
"Exactly" he nodded.
Rose smiled and hugged into him, and they lay there for a while, content in each others company.
"I had a nightmare too" said Rose "I was back at Van Statten's base and the Dalek was chasing me again"
The Doctor said nothing, but he tightened his grip on her
"Was that what you were dreaming about? The daleks I mean"
"Yeah"
He didn't say anything else for a while, and Rose thought she'd upset him but then,
"Don't you ever worry about daleks Rose, while I'm alive they'll never get you"
Rose smiled at that and hugged closer to him.
"I'll never let them get you either, and don't you ever think it's your fault if I die, cause its not, okay?"
The Doctor sighed
"Lets talk about this in the morning, go to sleep"
"I'm not tired" she muttered, stifling a yawn
The Doctor chuckled
"Sleep"
She nodded and curled into him and within minutes she was asleep. The Doctor watched her for a while before dropping off himself into an untroubled sleep, free for once from the terror of his dreams
