Summary: A new enemy shows up with ties to the Moon Kingdom.
Silent and dark, the night sky loomed overhead, starless as it blanketed all in shadow. Below it, the city glowed excessively with numerous lights in stark contrast to the night sky.
"So this is where they live." I gasped at the quiet beauty of the city landscape, even though I preferred the solitary views of nature. Holding my violet cape closed, my short green hair touching my collar, I averted my gaze to the girl standing beside me.
Hair long and blonde, eyes an icy blue, she stood two inches taller than I stand, and wore a white silk dress with matching shawl. Her skin nearly the complexion of porcelain, and as beautiful compared to mine that was pale but not as soft or smooth.
"We must gain allies before we find them. We can't make the same mistakes others have made." Her voice sounded as beautiful as her looks, though it did have harshness to it— harshness only recently acquired.
"My four old warriors, if we find them they'll help."
"Heh, they already failed twice, haven't they? Why should we give them another chance?"
"Third time's a charm." My hands fluttered to my neck and played with my only necklace—silver chain with an equilateral cross pendant decked with four differently hued diamonds at each end. There used to be a diamond in the center as well but that one had fallen out long ago.
"You miss them that much? I didn't know you became that sentimental." She stared as I fondled my pendant, a patronizing gleam in her eyes. I put both of my hands behind my back then, embarrassed that she had seen. "You need to get tougher for the plan, otherwise it'll fail."
"I will be tough, my enemies are my enemies—I will not be weak with them."
"Even when you have to fight against your cousin? Have you forgotten that he's on their side and has been since the Silver Millennium?"
"I did not forget, and family doesn't mean anything anymore. Only my loyalty to you and our cause mean anything to me."
"We'll see." Abruptly she opened a portal, a portal that led to the dark world we'd been living in recently, a world devoid of all life except us two. Before she stepped through it, she gave me an amused glare. "You should stop dressing like a guy; your warriors won't recognize you when we find them unless you do." Then she was gone, and the portal closed soon after I stepped through it, taking one more glance at the city landscape before I did.
Later on, I stood alone in my chamber in the dark world, a chamber that she couldn't enter—my haven. Quietly I gazed at all the trinkets and articles arrayed around the room, they were few, but to me they were priceless. I valued each item greatly, but the solitary portrait on the wall opposite the door I valued above everything else in the room, and valued equally with my necklace.
That portrait was of my princess with loving blue eyes and downy soft hair, whom I vowed to bring back one day. Thus, I dedicated my services to her, the cold-eyed master--the one I created this room to hide from for I can't bear feeling the guilt when I see her. Every time I see her, I remember the past, the horrible past that separated me from my warriors and princess.
For what I've done I don't deserve to live, I don't deserve to be happy, but I try to anyway. I just have to make due with what I have, and bide my time until I can be reunited with them again—I'll bring them back even if I have to betray the others.
