Chapter 2
Last Hope of Family
Two days later, the sisters met their unheard-of uncle, Aven Hans, who was "kind" enough to take them in. Hans was a cruel man and was far from being a family man. He forced Ai and Yu to work all the time around the house and ignored Aven Wei completely.
"Sis, I don't like Mr. Hans." said Yu.
"Nether do I, but he's are only family left." said Ai. "Where else are we to go?"
Then Wei started to cry from her crib.
"Ai, we must leave or Wei will starve." said Yu.
As Ai picked up Wei she told Yu to go get Wei some food. Yu left the house, being careful not to wake her uncle and went to the village. She went up to the market and when the keeper wasn't looking, she took three apples and ran back to the house. But when she got back Ai wasn't waiting for her, at the door stood her uncle.
"Where did get those apples." He demanded.
"I found them." said Yu calmly.
"Give them to me, now!" he said.
"No, they are for Wei!" shouted Yu.
"Why, you little brat." he said as he picked up Yu.
"No! Put me down."
He threw Yu onto the bed and shouted at the girls saying things like:
"You're all just brats, good for nothing brats."
and…
"All you ever do is cry, mope, and steal!"
Then he finally left the room and Aven Yu was in the corner crying with fresh slash marks on her back.
Ai got of the bed and helped her sister up and said, "I've had enough, we're leaving tomorrow."
