Back Of Our Minds. Chapter One.
DISCLAIMER: I DO NOT MAKE ANY PROFIT FROM THIS STORY OR GREY'S ANATOMY THE TV PROGRAMME. THIS IS PURELY FICTION.
It was a cold, rainy day at Seattle Grace Hospital and no one, apart from Cristina, wanted to be there. The weather had made people miserable; spirits were low and motivation was scarce. The gang were in the back corridor, all sitting on the stretchers along the walls apart from George who was, of course, sitting in a wheelchair. George swings round in his automobile to yell at Izzy, "Do people just like, choose not to be ill when it rains! I'm a surgeon, I should be cutting people open and saving lives, instead I'm just stuck here doing paperwork. I'm a surgeon, not a writer"
"George."
"What?"
"Shut up." And so he does. Clearly, the rain hasn't left Cristina in as good a mood as we may have hoped. The dull weather and lack of work has even taken its toll on her.
"You know, we always say we're tired, and we always say we have too much work and no time to catch up on paperwork so why don't we quit whining and be productive?" Suggests Izzy, optimistic as ever.
"I hate models." States Cristina, obviously feeling less optimistic than Izzy. She jumps down off the stretcher and walks over to the vending machine. She sticks a few coins in and presses a button. Nothing. She kicks it and retreats back to the stretcher. She's pissed off, and even in the face of her usual pessimism, her friends can see it too.
"What's up?" Asks Meredith, looking up from her book, offering a shoulder to cry on.
"Nothing, I'm just. Men are such jerks!" She throws her pen at the wall and it rebounds onto the back of George's head. He gives her that look he gives most people when he feels annoyed, but not quite enough to challenge his attacker. "Can you believe Burke? I mean okay so we're going out and stuff… and yeah so I didn't want to make a big deal out of it… but jeez, not allowed to be going out at work? What is that? Is it like some man thing where he has all his power with all his testosterone and stuff? Meredith, let's be lesbians." Alex looks up from his paperwork with a sudden look of attention. The girls give him a look of disgust.
Before the conversation can continue on to more perverse topics, everyone's pagers start to beep. "Oh my god - it's a nine-one-one." Says Izzy - sounding more worried for the safety of possible patients rather than excited at the prospect of no longer being bored. In one liquid movement, they all swoop off the stretchers and break into a run, stopping only to put on their coats. By the time they get to the ER it's pandemonium: a high-speed car chase on the freeway got out of hand and caused a huge pile-up, causing multiple injuries; Christmas for the interns….
That's Chapter One, guys. Review it and tell me what you think and I'll write more.
