"He's just in there." Will's voice was soft, scared, as he stood with Anamaria beside Jack's cabin door. "H-he asked for you, Anamaria, said he wanted you there... at the... at the... end." He closed his eyes and walked away.

Anamaria closed her eyes, dreading what she was going to find inside. The end, the end? It could not be the end. No. No, she wouldn't accept it. She would open the door and Jack would be inside, grinning, laughing, and she would slap him for scaring her, and they would go on normally.

She opened the door.

The curtains were open, the window too, and Jack's bed had been moved over there to give him a good view of his beloved ocean. He was lying in the white sheets, his head propped up on the pillows, his soft eyes staring out. And she knew it then.

He was dying.

He looked at her, smiled a little. "Anamaria."

She was thrown, still, numb. Her breath caught in her throat. His skin, for all it's tan, was white. "Jack."

"Don' fret, luv," he urged. "Don' be scared."

But it was hard, it was so hard, because she saw that his own eyes held fear. And she was trembling, shaking, as she shook her head hopelessly at him.

"Luv," he whispered, holding out a feeble hand. "Come ter me, luv."

And she flew to him, taking the hand in both of her own, holding it tightly, as though if she held it firmly enough he would make it through.

"I had ter see yer," said Jack, coughing a little. "Had ter say... had ter say sorry. If I hurt yer, then I'm sorry, luv."

The tears started then, running down her cheeks freely. This was the end, the end of Jack Sparrow. "Oh, Jack... Jack..."

"Don', luv," he pleaded.

She couldn't stop. Falling onto the bed, she grabbed his shoulders and held onto them, determined not to let him go.

"Anamaria." He sounded weaker than before. "Anamaria, can I have... can I have a kiss?"

There was no hesitation. Her soft lips pressed up against his rough ones instantly, as they always should have.

"Luv..." Jack whispered, as she drew away. "I feel... cold."

"Jack!" His name left her mouth a scream, begging him to stay with her.

"Luv... I loved yer more than anyone I ever met..."

She cupped his cheeks in her hands, gazing into his dying eyes. "I know you did, Jack, and I love you-"

But she saw the warmth fade from his eyes at that moment, as if he had been waiting his entire life to hear her say those words. His head fell limp in her hands, and she let go of it slowly, her heart breaking.

"Jack."
