This is a Greg/Sara fic… The characters of CSI unfortunately do not belong to me…. Neither does the song.. it is Gary Allan's –'The One'

"The One"

No rush though I need your touch
I won't rush your heart
Until you feel on solid ground
Until your strength is found, girl

"Sara, wait!" Greg called running out the front door of the lab after Sara had dashed off after Grissom had crushed her heart yet again.

"What do you want, Greg?" she snapped, wheeling around to face him, her eyes streaming with long overdue tears.

He hugged her.

"Greg, What the-" She cut herself off and hugged him back, relaxing into the feel of his arms.

I'll fill those canyons in your soul
Like a river lead you home
And I'll walk a step behind
In the shadows so you shine
Just ask, it will be done
And I will prove my love
Until you're sure that I'm "the one"

"He doesn't deserve you," Greg said, sitting on her couch a few moments later. He sipped the coffee she'd invited him over for.

She looked down, suddenly finding the carpet rather intriguing. "You mean 'I don't deserve him'" she corrected.

Greg almost dropped his coffee in his rush to stand up and move closer to her He lifted her chin. "No, Sara," he started. "Grissom is too damn scared of his emotions to notice he's shattering your heart. You don't deserve to suffer because he doesn't know what love is." Greg finished his rant.

Sara sat completely dumbfounded.

Somebody else was here before
He treated you unkind
And broken wings need time to heal
Before a heart can fly, girl

"Greg, it's not… I…" she tried to form a coherent sentence and failed, miserably.

Greg sighed, and thought for a moment. "When you were dating Hank, he never appreciated you. He used you to cheat on his girlfriend. Don't you think you're worth more than that, Sar?" he asked, placing a friendly hand on her shoulder.

"No. No, I don't Greg." She stated, staring at the wall.

He groaned, "I do, Sara. You're worth everything to me. Grissom has no idea how lucky he is." He admitted, turning away from her.

I'll fill those canyons in your soul
Like a river lead you home
And I'll walk a step behind
In the shadows so you shine
Just ask, it will be done
And I will prove my love
Until you're sure that I'm "the one"

Ever since the day Sara had first walked into the lab, he'd loved her. His playful flirting and hopefully everlasting friendship with her had verified that for him. He'd go to hell and back just to see her smile. Once he'd become a C.S.I. they had grown even closer, but in the back of his mind, he was hoping for something more.

"I Love You," he whispered, she almost hadn't heard him.

Sara blinked, "What?"

Greg stood up. "Sara, I love you, with everything I am. I just wanted you to know that, and I'll wait for you as long as I have to." He said and started toward the door.

Trust in me and you'll find a heart so true
All I want to do is give the best of me to you
And stand beside you

"Wait! Greg!" she said, gently grabbing his wrist.

He moved to say something but found Sara's lips against his own, rendering him temporarily speechless.

"No more waiting, Greg. I love you, too."

Just ask, it will be done
And I will prove my love
Until you're sure that I'm "the one"
