Wings
These wings of mine are yours
I promise, to lift you up.
I promise, to keep you safe.
These wings of mine are fragile
but they are strong, because of you.
They hold the most hurtful weight
because they continue to stand true.
These wings of mine are yours
I promise, to lift you up.
I promise, to keep you safe.
They shall keep your body afloat
when the waves become too hard to bear.
They shall keep your soul singing
while your heart keeps wear and tear.
These wings remind us
of your value, your importance.
These wings remind us
of your beauty.
And I thank god everyday, that these wings
allow me to keep you.
---
My wings are fragile, broken from the past that has hurt me so. They are as black as night, calling to the darkness. Is it you who keeps me afloat? Is it you who saves me from drowning? This bird was meant for flight, but these fights have clipped my wings. Will you be my wings? Will you dive after me, and make sure I never reach the waters? They will drown me, it is surely true.
I have nothing to give you my robin. Your wings, you guide me so gracefully. You ask for trust, and I lay down my wings. You ask for responsibility, I give up my wings. You ask for companionship, I give you my eyes. For they are the only thing that tells the truth, when my wings have taken down all that was left of me.
These wings remind us
of your value, your importance.
These wings of yours
are what keeps me afloat.
These wings of yours
are what keep me from drowning.
I'm drowning in this world, let you lift me up.
When you fall, when your wings are clipped,
We will rise, to lift you up, my robin.
