Chapter 7

"Kanna, I have some interesting news from the school."

Souta tensed and knew that they were going to be busted here and now. He closed his eyes to wait for the incoming blow of verbal anger.

"It seems that you have got perfect on all your tests, congratulations!"

The sound of a "THUNK" echoed throughout the room of the Higurashi residence. Kanna and Mrs. Higurashi turned towards the noise to see that Souta had feinted.

"Poor Souta, he must have been surprised that you got perfect."

"Perhaps." Kanna replied as she picked up her finished homework and headed up the stairs.

"Goodnight Kanna." Mrs. Higurashi said towards her back.

Kanna just nodded and continued to climb up the stairs. She reached the door and pulled it open. There, she placed down her work and looked through the books in Souta's room. The night before, she had stayed up a little to read his text books and now she knew everything and more of what Souta had learned. Kanna sat down on a chair at the desk and reflected on what had happened today.

'Why am I doing actions like them and showing emotion? What's wrong with me. I am nothing like father said. If I am nothing, then why am I feeling?' she thought.

Kanna thought for a little while and then said,

"Maybe I should write about this on paper."

So she grabbed a bundle of paper and tied it up with string. Then she took two pieces of bristle board and cut them so that it would fit as a cover and back cover. After that, she wrote on the front, 'My Days.' She flipped the cover and began to write. Day 1 ------

It has been quite a day today. After what happened yesterday, I'm still wondering if this is all just a dream. I had just woke up when I sneezed. Somebody must have been talking about me. Anyways, I ate the food Mrs. Higurashi placed out for me but she seemed to be surprised. Aren't humans supposed to find eating enjoyable?

After that, Mrs. Higurashi told me I was going to school. When I asked them what it was, they looked shocked. Mrs. Higurashi told me everything and I think I understood.

When we actually got to school, Higurashi and me saw a idiotic person called a secretary. She told nothing but crap and after a little while, we finally got to the classroom. I was in the exact same class as Higurashi. He seemed a little surprised but it was not much of a shock to his peers.

When the tests came around everybody seemed to groan at this. Was I supposed to hate this? How the heck should I know? I've only been here for a day so I guess I still have a lot to learn.

After reading Higurashi's books, the tests were relatively easy. After that, a loud-pitched sound made my head hurt. Higurashi told me that it was a bell and it left me wondering why the hell did they put them there. Most of these people are stupid so it did not surprise me when we were at recess.

Higurashi led me to this wall that had people torturing others by tossing red balls of terror at each other. I nearly laughed as kids ran screaming everywhere. This big man named Kurato chose to mock me. So I threw the red ball and I still chuckle sometimes when I think about how pathetic he looked when he was holding his face. Like I said, 'Stupid People'.

After classes, Higurashi wanted to take the coward's way out. It seems he does not have enough confidence. Quite a pathetic mortal if you ask me. So, Kurato and some other person decided to follow us and it was starting to become extremely annoying. So I turned around and pummeled them. It was sweet.

Souta's Grandpa is all right. But his stupid ofuda got stuck in my hair. Then when all goes well, I just had to find out that Inuyasha comes here. Not much of a problem, I can just kill him like father says but he's not around, is he.

That is all for today.

Kanna shut the cover and decided to take a glance out the window. Cool air filtered through the screen window and gave a slight calming effect. But it stopped suddenly as laughter filled the air. Kanna looked down to see Kurato and his partner Sukay carrying a bottle of some kind. They were heading straight towards their residence.

She spied a passing dog come by and it came towards the two boys. They lifted the cans and something blue and hazy came out and seemed to color the dog. It yelped in surprise and the boys just kicked it away. They turned back towards the house and Kanna suddenly realized what they were going to do.

"Trying to change the color of the house I see. We'll just see about that."

Kanna pulled back the screen and hopped out of the window. Everything came rushing past, her hair whipping through the night. She softly landed and walked towards the front. Her eyes scanned the area and she saw that the boys were climbing up the steps. Kanna bent down and found a suitable sized stick. It was thick so it had to hurt.

'Perfect' thought Kanna as she inched ever so closer to the intruders.

Kurato shook up his can and walked up to the wall. Right when he was about to spray, a scream of surprise filled the air. He turned around to see that Sukay was out cold. Kurato sweated and looked around.

"What is your purpose here."

Kurato turned to find the solemn face of Kanna. He jumped in surprise and then got quickly angry. Forgetting that this was the same person who punched him good, he charged at her. Right when he was about to get her, she disappeared into the darkness. She would appear everywhere and he couldn't even lay a finger on her. So, using his ultimate power that was bestowed to him at birth, whenever he is ever about to lose, he ran for his life.

When he saw the stairs, he sighed in relief but then ran right into a fist. It felt like he had just tried to run through a wall and fell down, out cold. The lights turned on in the house and Souta and his Grandpa ran out of the house.

"What the heck happened here?" Souta asked while inspecting the bodies of two people. He fell down in surprise and pointed at the two.

"You beat them up again?"

Grandpa looked at Souta, then at Kanna and asked,

"What do you mean by again?"

"Well, those two tried to beat us up so Kanna beat them up. But I don't know what the heck happened here."

"Why don't we talk about this tomorrow sice it's gonna be a Saturday. I'll call the police so they can handle them but Kanna, you go get some rest, okay?" Grandpa said as he picked up the two boys.

Kanna nodded and walked back into the house, when she got into 'her room', she laid down her head and slowly nodded off to sleep.

Kanna's Dream:

Kanna walked through the hallways of Naraku. The sounds of steel hitting steel could be heard outside. She ran outside to see Naraku and Kagura fighting Inuyasha and the others. But what confused her most was why was Souta standing beside his sister? Thousands of demon laid dead with wounds covering all of their bodies. The battle ground was blood soaked making it look like a bloody lake.

She ran towards Souta, wanting to greet her friend but the miko sister stood in the way and told her to move away. She moved a little closer and Kagome trained a arrow at her.

"Souta, it's me. Tell your sister that I'm your friend." Kanna yelled over the sounds of the demons slowly dying.

He nodded and ran towards his sister but she told him to step back. But he continued to walk towards her. Kanna was still walking towards Souta and Kagome's hands glowed a pinkish color.

"Stay away from my brother Kanna. Or I'll have to kill you."

Judging by her eyes, Kanna knew that she was telling the truth. But she ignored her and continued to walk. Souta pulled at his sister's arm but she just shrugged him off.

"I have warned you to many times. Your life ends here." Kagome shouted as she pulled back the arrow.

Her eyes were blazing and her hand glowed a dull pink. Right when she was about to release it, Souta pushed her and the arrow flew towards a different target. That target was Naraku. He screamed in pain and it alone cut through the ground. Naraku vanished and now that he was gone, they all turned towards the last survivor, except for Kagura who seemed to have been spared.

"This is the end Kanna. Your father is dead, that means you shall die now."

Kagome pulled out another arrow and let it fly. It pierced Kanna's heart and she could barely see through the pink glow. Souta screamed and cried and fell to his knees. Kanna felt life slipping away from her but she had enough time to feel a salty tear fall from her eye...

Kanna woke up in cold sweat while gasping for breath. She had never had nightmares before. Kanna touched her face to feel a streak of water coming from her eye. She groaned and got up. After taking one of those things Mrs. Higurashi called "A Shower", she went down the stairs and felt her stomach growl. Kanna took the bowl of cereal on the table and this time she ate it a spoonful at a time. After that dream, she had lost most of her appetite.

'Damn emotions.' Thought Kanna who was now drinking the rest of her milk.

Souta came down and sat down beside Kanna. He turned towards Kanna and asked,

"Do you want to talk to my Grandpa now?"

"I suppose so." Replied Kanna while placing her bowl into the sink.

Kanna wasn't really up to talking but knew she had no choice. Souta got back up and motioned for her to follow. He took her straight into his Grandpa's room and his Grandpa was currently asleep. Souta walked up and poked him. He woke up with a start and looked to see Kanna and Souta in his room. He stroked his pointy beard and said,

"Ah, now I remember. Okay Kanna, what happened last night."

So she told what had happened to him and he looked a little shocked that such a little girl could beat up a person who looked far stronger. But he was pissed to here that they had actually tried to vandalize their property.

"When I get my hands on those boys I'll, I'll,"

Souta stared at his Grandpa and stated,

"Don't worry Grandpa, the police have this covered. Can I show Kanna the park?"

"Sure, but be back before sundown or your mother will get worried."

"Don't worry, I'll remember."

He grabbed Kanna's hand and took her outside. The sun was shining and a warm wind was all that was needed to make this a perfect day.

"Great, at least I know that today's going to be a great day!"

But how wrong was he.

At the Park:

Adults, kids and animals were everywhere in the park. Kanna had never seen such a great place and was glad that Souta had taken her here. The plants were in full bloom and sakura petals flew around in a dance with the wind.

"Souta, may I look around by myself."

"Of course Kanna. I'll meet you by that tree." He pointed at the Cherry Blossom tree and they both nodded.

Kanna immediately went towards the flowers. Most of the flowers were Japan Roses, which were a beautiful shade of white. They were so enchanting that Kanna could not help but stare at them.

'They are just like me. Bright and easy to notice, but in reality, nothing but emptiness' Kanna thought bitterly and taking her gaze off of the flowers, decided to visit the lake. Birds were flying and dove up and down on the lake surface.

She sat down on an empty bench that looked out across the lake. Kanna closed her eyes and felt her bitterness leave. It was mostly silent except for the sounds of children laughing and playing. A tune filled the air and Kanna opened one eye to see Mrs. Shiguro jogging towards her while wearing headphones.

"I didn't expect you here Ms. Higurashi."

"Well I didn't expect you either."

"Look here young lady, I know that we got off on the wrong start but I think that were can still be friends, is that alright?"

"I suppose so."

They shook hands and Mrs. Shiguro sat down on the bench beside her.

"Nice day today. Thought it would be nice for a good jog."

"I don't really like jogging. Walking is for me." Replied Kanna who had closed her eyes again.

"I just wish that it would be like this everyday."

"Not all wishes come true."

"I know. But it is a dream and I shall keep it."

Kanna and Mrs. Shiguro continued talking about random stuff until a beep was heard.

"Opps, sorry about this but I have to leave. See you at school Kanna!"

She walked away and waved at Kanna who waved back.

"Guess I'll go see Souta too."

The sky was getting a little darker so Kanna decided to run towards the tree. What she saw was one of the biggest surprises in her life.

Souta's Day:

He looked at Kanna's retreating back and decided that a nice stroll in the park would be nice. But as soon as he had taken his first step, he tripped and a sharp meow was heard. He looked down to see that Buyo, his cat, was right beside him.

"Opps, sorry Buyo, I wasn't looking where I was going." He picked up the black, brown and white cat and stroked his head. Buyo purred and curled into a ball to rest in his arms.

Souta groaned at the thought of carrying his cat but didn't really have a choice. The park seemed to have a endless supply of children because Souta had to dodge most of them. Souta did a lot of sight seeing and decided that it was time to go see Kanna. He found the tree and sat down. Nearly all of the kids were gone and he felt really alone.

"I just hope Kanna didn't leave without me."

Souta looked around and then saw a shadow appear from the trees. Souta's blood nearly froze when he saw none other then Kurato. He quickly glanced everywhere but Kanna was nowhere to be found and Kurato was drawing nearer. He decided to make a break for it and started to run but was quickly tackled down.

"So you thought you could get away. Well, that's not gonna happen."

He then began to beat relentlessly on Souta. Kurato then pulled off a tree branch and began to whip his sides with it. Souta screamed in pain as it tore into his skin.

"She can't help you now, Souta. I'm going to make you suffer."

He kicked again and again into Souta's ribs and Souta could barely draw in oxygen. He spit out blood and Kurato pulled him up by his hair and slammed him into a tree.

"Heh, I hope you learned your lesson because next time will be even worse."

Kurato walked away, leaving Souta in a bloody mess. Buyo came over and it had a sad look on its face. Buyo looked his face and Souta picked him up and held him to his chest while sobbing quietly.

He lay there in agony until he heard a noise. He looked up a little to see Kanna with a look of horror on her face. Another noise was heard and he turned to see...
