Chapter 8
Another nosie was heard and he turned to see... Mrs. Shiguro coming from the bend of the road.
She had just remembered that she had left her purse back in the park and walked right back towards the park. When she saw Souta, she raced towards him and looked over his battered body.
"What the hell happened to him?"
Kanna looked up and shrugged her shoulders. She looked around but didn't see anybody. But what she did find made her blood boil with fiery rage. A small can of spray paint was lying right next to Souta. She picked it up and walked away.
"Kanna wait for m-"But she just kept on walking. Mrs. Shiguro whipped out her cell phone and dialed the police phone number.
"Hello, I need you to send a ambulance to Sakura Rose Garden Park. I have just found a boy named Souta Higurashi who seems to have been beaten. Okay, thanks, goodbye and please hurry!"
She turned back to Souta who was seemed to be holding on to consciousness. But slowly, everything became black to him.
Souta's Dream:
Souta felt like he was falling into darkness. There was not a single light anywhere and he just kept on falling. The endless streaks of black caused Souta to shiver to the center of his bones. Yet, it was also exhilarating in a strange way. Souta closed his eyes in fear of the landing. But once the pads of his feet reached the floor he opened them again.
Souta appeared to be in a forest covered land. The wind blew in his face and leaves fell to the ground. He began to walk around and saw a hut up ahead. So Souta decided to check this thing out and set off on bare foot. But what was peculiar was that every time he tried to get nearer, the hut would get more far away.
Souta tripped over a fallen branch and screamed in angry frustation.
'What's the deal with this thing,' Souta thought while pounding his fists into the solid ground.
"You cannot go anywhere Souta."
Souta looked around and turned to see a hooded figure. He jumped back but he then was suspended in mid-air. The mysterious figure twisted its bony hands, causing Souta to choke. Souta felt his body slowly go numb at the lack of air and he twisted constantly to get out of the person's vice- like grip hold. The figure eased his fingers and Souta settled to the ground, gasping for air.
"What the hell did you do that for?" asked Souta as he stood up to face the person.
"I am your worst nightmare," stated the figure coldly.
"Wow, is this a dream?"
"What! I mean, yes it is but the pain is very real my boy. You are a coward and cowards deserve punishment." The figure moved a little closer and Souta began to back away a little.
"What are you going to do?"
"Like I said, you deserve punishment."
Souta moved back a little more and decided to make a break for it. Turning around, he made another dash for the hut.
"You cannot escape Souta! You cannot escape!"
A bone chilly laughter filled the air but Souta just kept on running. The hut did not appear to go farther so he ran inside. Inside, a group of people looked up at him. One appeared to be his sister.
"Kagome!"
Kagome turned around as Souta jumped onto her and cried his eyes out. When he was done he looked up and started telling her all the things she missed and about his new friend Kanna.
Kagome narrowed her eyes at Souta and said,
"Souta, Kanna is the enemy."
"No she isn't sis. She's not the enemy. She's my friend!"
"Now, now Souta. You are wrong and you are also being a coward from the truth and cowards get punished."
Souta started to shake and looked around the hut. Everybody was becoming the darkness and Kagome turned into the hooded figure.
"Souta, I told you that you would get punished, and now you will."
The hooded figure began to scream a loud-pitched sound and Souta covered his ears. The power of the scream tore through the hut and bits and pieces flew around. Souta felt his body rise and he tried to get his hand on something but found nothing. He rose at least forty feet and felt his body spin. Lightning flashed in the distance and it slowly came closer. Souta struggled and struggled but he could do nothing.
When the lightning finally struck him, he lay in suspended agony. Then he felt a burning sensation and looked down at his arms to see the skin tissue cut away, causing laceration wounds.
The torment was agonizing but it increased ten times worse as he felt as if a hundred needles were pricking his left eye. He screamed and screamed but nobody could save him. In a final flash of light, a scream could be heard that reached all across the land.
At The Hospital:
Mrs. Higurashi had just arrived at her son's room when she saw him twitch his body. His face looked like he was in severe pain and then he began convulse. A nurse rushed in and stuck a needle into him.
"What's wrong with my son!?" demanded Mrs. Higurashi as she looked down at her now still boy.
"We think he might have suffered mental problems. It appears as if somebody beat him down."
Mrs. Higurashi gasped in shock and began to cry for her little boy.
"Are you his mother?"
Mrs. Higurashi nodded and then told her that she was going to stay with her son. Bringing up a chair, she sat beside him and cried into his blanket.
"Who did this you? I swear, I will make them pay."
Mrs. Higurashi wiped her eyes away and just silently sat beside him.
Kanna walked towards the green decomposing house. She had looked up the address of Kuruto and had decided to finish this battle once and for all. When she finally arrived, the doors were locked and no lights were on in the house.
'Hmm, it appears he is not home. I suppose I shall find him somewhere.' Kanna thought as she walked away.
She walked down the streets and heard a quarrel. She glanced at the convenience store and saw Kurato running away from the scene with a stolen box of pop on his left shoulder.
'Perfect. He shall wish he was never born.' Kanna slowly faded away with the darkness.
"I swear that I didn't steal the pop." Kurato yelled at the store clerk who had a stern look on his face.
"Now look here boy! Do you see me as a fool? Now hand it back or I'll have to call the authorities!"
Kurato turned around slightly and came back to deliver a kick to the clerk's shin. The clerk fell down and Kurato made a break for it.
"Damn, that was way to close. I'll just take the alleyway to escape." Kurato dashed into the dank alleyway but did not expect to run into another fist. He fell down and kept his hand on his face.
"Dammit, who the he--, K-k-kanna, how nice to meet you. I-I hope I didn't disturb y-you?"
Kurato could see the fire in her eyes so he decided to run once again. Going for the exit, he almost made it but a hand grabbed his shirt and pulled him back.
Kanna whipped out her mirror out of her breast pocket and pointed it at Kurato's face.
"Now, first I'll kill you, then I'll beat up. Heh, you mortal fool." Her mirror shined and Kurato fell down, motionless.
Kanna began to savagely beat him until he had cuts and scars all around his body. She scratched, kicked, and punched him for a half an hour. After that, Kanna returned his soul into his body and walked away. She raised a hand over her shoulder and stated,
"Next time, you die permanently." She left the alleyway for Kurato to lay in his suffering like Souta did.
'Souta!' she thought quickly and ran towards the hospital. She had read about it and it explained that all injured people went inside there. She dashed inside and tried to go to the rooms but the person at the front would not let her in. She stepped back and yelled,
"Souta!"
Mrs. Higurashi woke up and she was sure someone had just yelled Souta's name. She looked out the door, which peered into the hallway and saw Kanna trying to get in.
"Kanna, over here!"
Kanna turned towards Mrs. Higurashi and ran towards her. She entered the room and Mrs. Higurashi talked to the nurse, telling her that Kanna was one of their family members.
Kanna sat down on the chair and looked at Souta. She felt his forehead and whispered,
"Your hurt, aren't you Souta. Let me see your dreams." She once again brought her mirror out and peered inside it. A flash of light, and Kanna was unconscious.
Kanna was falling like Souta, but she left her eyes open. Brilliant shades of light surrounded Kanna as she made a landing. Her eyes adjusted the bright light and looked around to see that she was back home. But something felt... different.
"I can see past your illusions." Stated Kanna as the landscape faded away to reveal a dark, dank room. Straight ahead, hanging by straps that surrounded his arms like bandages, was a small boy.
"Souta." Kanna said in her usual Monotone voice.
A shadow appeared in front of her and reached a hand towards her. Kanna grabbed it and threw it back. The shadow moved back a little, revealing a hooded figure.
"Welcome to my domain, Kanna. I hope you enjoyed the view from here?" The figure chuckled and Kanna only stared at him with her penetrating eyes.
"Choose to remain quiet, eh? Why don't you try to save Souta yourself?"
Kanna bent down and picked up a rock. She threw it towards Souta but before it could reach him, it crackled and turned into ash.
"Oh, did I forget to mention that. Well now, that shouldn't be much trouble for y-"
He was cut off quickly when he felt a crackling aura of anger. He peered down at Kanna and he could see that she had fire in her eyes. Kanna stared at him and whispered,
"How about I kill you instead."
Kanna whipped out her mirror and dashed towards him. She made a swinging motion and let the mirror grab the garb over the figures head. She looked in shock to see that it was her 'father', Naraku. But, she knew that this was not he. It was a look-alike.
"So Kanna this is your worst fear. I take the form of your fear in dreams and manipulate people to slowly drain their energy, like Souta. Now, it seems I have grown so powerful that humans are no longer challenging. So I lured you hear to drain your energy, and now, you shall feel my wrath!"
Giant tentacles shot out from under his cloak and surrounded the room. Kanna held the mirror close to her and waited for him to attack. The Naraku- look-alike whipped a tentacle at Kanna and she deflected it at him. He roared as green liquid came out of the wound.
"Your power is nothing compared to me, fool."
Kanna summoned up half of the souls in her mirror and shot them out
like a cannon towards her opponent. They rammed into him and he flew a
few feet. But unfortunately, he ran right into his barrier. His body
twisted and turned and he went into a burst of flames.
"Damn you Kanna! You shall never save your friend. I'll kill you all
when I explode. Hahaha!"
He glowed a dark blue and Kanna knew he was serious. She ran towards
Souta but felt the barrier start to burn into her body, but it felt
somewhat weaker then normal. So she kept on running, ignoring the
severe pain. Kanna felt like screaming but kept it in. She made a
final leap and made it past the barrier.
She gasped for breath while looking up at Souta.
"Damn it! Souta, wake up!" Kanna screamed.
Souta's fingers twitched and he opened his eyes.
"Kanna?" asked Souta but groaned because his chest hurt like hell.
"Souta, get down here. We have to get out of this place. This place is
going to blow up."
Souta gasped and pulled at the wraps around his arms. He pulled the
last one off and forgot that he was in the air. He dropped and ended
up landing on Kanna's back.
Souta blushed and stuttered,
"Opps?"
Kanna just sat right up and grabbed Souta's arm.
"Let's just go home now."
"But how do we do that?"
Question marks filled the air and suddenly, a light bulb flashed above
Souta's head.
"Why don't we wait till he explodes? Then, when he blows up, we use
that mirror-thingy and rocket up all the way up!" Souta exclaimed
excitedly but when he turned to Kanna, she was looking in the opposite
direction.
"Or, we just use that door." Kanna said as she pointed at the big
brown door behind Souta.
Souta face-faulted and followed Kanna out of the door.
Back at the Hospital:
Mrs. Higurashi looked at the sight in surprise. Kanna appeared to be out cold beside Souta, right after she went in. Mrs. Higurashi yelled for a nurse and one came rushing towards their room.
Mrs. Higurashi looked back at Souta and Kanna but was surprised to see that Kanna was wide-awake.
"Kanna, your awake!"
Mrs. Higurashi ran towards Kanna and gave her a big hug.
"What the heck happened?"
"Umm, I feinted?"
Mrs. Higurashi looked straight into her eyes and sighed.
"At least I know that you're safe."
Souta's face twisted a little and Mrs. Higurashi gasped. Souta opened his eyes and sat up.
"Souta, your okay!" yelled Mrs. Higurashi.
Souta felt his face, then looked at his mom and said,
"Mom, my left eye..."
