Disclaimer: I do not own Inuyasha in anyway, whatsoever.
A.N.: Hey everybody. Sorry for the long wait. Anyways, I have a total of twenty-three reviews and only seven more to go so keep them coming. Now, on with the story!
Chapter 11
The force of the blow caused Kanna to tumble down the stairs. Souta panted as he tried to get up but to no avail. His head began to throb as he stumbled towards Kanna. When he picked her up, it surprised him that she barely weighed anything. With Kanna in his arms, he entered the Higurashi home.
Souta flicked the switches on the wall and the room instantly lit up for him. He closed his eyes to fend off the irritating light then opened them. He spotted the couch and decided to place Kanna on the couch. With her safe, Souta felt a little sleepy. Souta again began to stumble towards the stairs but nearly collapsed. He flailed his hands and managed to grab onto the post.
Souta sighed and continued his painful journey up the stairway. His head still pounded like a thousand men pummeling his head like a drum. He got to the top, smiled, and then collapsed.
In Grandpa's Room:
The sound of somebody walking up the stairs caused Grandpa to wake up. He rubbed his eyes thoroughly and looked over at his alarm clock. It was a little past midnight.
"A thief." whispered Grandpa as he looked around for a suitable weapon. He picked up the broom by the room and tip-toed out of his room. Another sound was heard, this time it sounded as if something was falling. Grandpa ignored it and just kept on going. Pausing at the corner, he took a little peek to see a small figure on the floor.
'Hmm, trying to hide I see. Better try harder then that!'
He raised his 'weapon' and charged while screaming like a lunatic. Grandpa ran straight into a table and fell down, swirl-eyed.
"Uhhhhh."
Grandpa shooked his head and this time got a closer look on the intruder. He stepped back in surprise and stuttered.
"S-S-Souta? What happened to you Souta!" He picked him up quickly and carried him to his room. Looking him over, he noticed a patch over his eye.
"What happened to you?"
Grandpa remembered how Mrs. Higurashi had ran straight out of the house when she answered the phone.
Souta moaned painfully squeezed his eyes. Grandpa turned around and shouted with joy to see his grandson finally waking up. Souta rubbed his 'eye' with his hand and then shot up like a bullet.
"Kanna, is she okay?" Souta asked frantically as he attempeted to rise, only to fall down painfully.
"Kanna... I haven't seen her since this morning, and why the heck do you have a patch over your eye. Nobody tells me anything in this house."
He began to cry a waterfall, while saying incoherent words.
"Just between you and me Grandpa, a lot of times we forget about you." Souta began to laugh nervously and scratched the back of his head with his hand.
Grandpa loomed over him angrily as fire seemed to engulf his head. Souta sweat-dropped and crawled back a little. As quick as it had appeared, the flames stopped, to be replaced with a look of concern.
"Did you and Kanna get hurt?"
Souta looked down and muttered softly,
"It's nothing, but Kanna is on the couch and she's the one that's hurt. Please get her."
Grandpa stood up and walked down the stairs, a few moments later he appeared with Kanna and a look of surprise on his face.
"Why, she barely weighs a thing! It's like I'm carrying a giant feather."
"That's what I thought too when I carried her."
He dragged out a spare futon and placed Kanna onto it. Taking a chair from Souta's desk, he sat cross-legged on it and stared at Souta again. This time, it was more piercing then the last one.
"Tell me now Souta. Why do you have that patch on your eye?"
Souta looked around for a minute, but then sighed, knowing well that there was no way he could escape.
"Well, you see, it started out with Kanna beating up the school bully."
Grandpa frowned and asked if it was the same person who tried to vandalize the shrine. Souta nodded and began to continue again.
"After that, when me and Kanna were heading to the park, the same bully was there too. I think he was looking for Kanna but he found me instead. Long story short, he busted me up pretty badly. But it's nothing." Souta smiled and turned away from his Grandfather.
"WHHAATT! How can that be nothing and why in blazes are you so happy? You got hurt."
"I wanna be tough like big brother Inuyasha!"
Grandpa rubbed his forehead harshly, thinking about how that demon was having a bad influence on Souta and Kagome.
'Wait a minute, KAGOME!'
"Souta, didn't Kagome say that she was going to return."
"Yeah, but that was supposed to be a few days ago."
Worry covered Grandpa's face as he thought of the worst things that could happen to Kagome.
"Curse that demon. Kagome better be safe with him or I'll have his head on a pike."
Souta hid his head under his blanket, hoping that he wasn't going to do that to him to.
"Grandpa, I haven't seen Kagome either and I'm worried to. But Inuyasha is strong and he would never let anything happen to Kagome." Said Souta's muffled voice from under the blanket.
"I suppose so." Grandpa sighed in defeat and wearily walked away from the room.
Souta turned to Kanna and with a whisper he said,
"Goodnight Kanna. I hope your better tomorrow."
With that done, he went into a deep slumber.
The Next Morning:
The sun reached high in the sky as alarms everywhere began to ring. Souta grabbed a pillow and placed it over his ears, hoping to drown out the annoying ringing. He attempted to throw the pillow at the alarm clock, but missed. Souta groaned and grabbed the clock. He rubbed his eyes to get the sleep out of his eyes and then got up.
Souta looked over at Kanna but dropped his clock in surprise. She was standing up in her bed and seemed to be staring at him curiously.
"GAHHHH!"
Souta screamed in surprise but was even more surprised when Kanna jumped back in fear.
"Kanna, your awake!
Souta ran up and hugged her. Kanna responded carefully and hugged him back.
"Why are you hugging me?" asked Kanna as she twirled a piece of hair on her finger.
"Well Kanna, last night you were trying to beat me up so I tried to push you and we both passed out. Sorry!" said Souta nervously.
"Okay..."
"What's wrong Kanna? You sound a little different."
"But how can you know if I sound different. I don't even know you."
Souta stared dumbly at her as he tried to process this through his brain. After a few seconds, he fell backwards in surprise.
"What did you say Kanna!?" asked Souta frantically.
"I said I don't know you, and who the heck is Kanna?"
Souta looked at her and then feinted.
Kitchen of Higurashi Residence:
Mrs. Higurashi ran into the door of the kitchen, calling out the names if Kanna and Souta.
"Where are you Souta? Tell me where you are right now. Souta!"
Grandpa walked into the room tiredly and grabbed himself a glass of orange juice. He yawned and tried to get out of the kitchen if somebody had not grabbed him by the back of his shirt. He looked over his shoulder to be met by the fearsome stare of his daughter.
"Dad, where is SOUTA AND KANNA!"
"Calm down dear. There in Souta's room resting. You can go up there right now."
Letting go of her father, Mrs. Higurashi made a dash for the stairs. She climbed them all and grabbed Souta's door, pulling with all her might. The force of it almost caused it to break off its hinges while Mrs. Higurashi ran into the room.
"Souta? Where are you? Souta... GAHHH! Souta, what's wrong."
Souta was face down on the floor and seemed to be unconscious. She picked him up and hugged him tight, but then he fell off of her and banged his head on the floor. Souta let out a moan of pain and got up.
"I'm okay, just a little dizzy though. But Kanna can't remember anything mom. How come she can't remember?"
"Well, Kanna was in a accident, and she was knocked out."
"What kind of accident."
"She was hit by a car."
Shock was etched all over his face as he held to get the information through his head.
"But how come she could walk all the way here?"
"I don't know. Sorry Souta."
"Hello, who is Kanna. You still haven't told me."
The two jumped in surprise at the sudden sound of a different voice.
"Kanna, Your okay!"
"Who is Kanna and..., wow, a shiny mirror."
Kanna grabbed the mirror beside her and it began to glow eerily. Then, the most amazing thing happened...
