Chapter 12

Then, the most amazing thing happened. A shape was appearing out of the mirror. The room was dead silent as the shape began to become a sort of humanoid figure. With a shrill cry, it lunged at Kanna.

Kanna was caught by surprise and was pushed back to the wall. Kanna squirmed under the intense grip of the being but just couldn't get out. A mouth appeared on the figures face and it attempted to swallow Kanna.

Souta jumped onto the monster and hung on to it. The monster swayed around and let out screams in a attempt to throw off Souta. Mrs. Higurashi feinted at the sight of the monster so Souta and Kanna were all alone.

"Leave Kanna alone you monster!" screamed Souta while kicking the monster with all his strength.

The monster let out a loud roar and threw Souta all the way across the room. He hit the wall and saw black dots appear in his eyes.

'Uggh, I can't become unconscious now.' thought Souta as he tried to shake off the severe pain.

Souta once again charged towards the monster but this time he was stopped by a giant fist. It then rose and became a sharp claw. The monster laughed at Souta as he slashed at the boy.

Blood dripped from his arm from the deep scratch the monster had given him. He looked over at Kanna and she seemed to be a little dazed from the attack.

"Kanna, please help me." called Souta.

The hand grabbed Souta and began to squeeze him. The more he moved, the harder the hand squeezed him. With nearly no oxygen, Souta let out one last scream.

Kanna's head shot up at the sound of Souta's scream.

"S...Souta?"

Everything came back to her in a flash of memories. Kanna remembered everything that had happened to her in a quick flash.

"I'm coming Souta!"

She grabbed the mirror that was lying on the floor and jumped onto the monster like Souta had. She turned her mirror so it went towards the face of the monster.

"NOOO!!" it screamed as a swirling vortex filled the entire room.

Souta ran to his mother to shield her from the blast and dragged her out of the room. He could only watch helplessly as the vortex seemed to swallow up Kanna and the monster. Beams of light were shooting out of the monster's body and then with a bright shine of light, it exploded.

The shockwave caused Souta's patch over his left eye to rip away, which exposed his eye to the light. He let out a cry of pain when he felt a burning sensation go through his body. His body was slammed into the wall and he could not move.

Kanna landed on her feet and held the mirror to her chest. Everything seemed to be okay but the room was completely totaled. The furniture was turned to ash and smoke was coming out of everything.

"Opps?" said Kanna as she surveyed the damage. What caught her eye was the patch sitting on the floor.

"Souta! Are you okay?"

She found him on the wall outside the room. Mrs. Higurashi was finally waking up and everything seemed to be alright. Then, Souta gasped.

"What's wrong?"

"Nothing, it just that something weird is going on."

"What appears to be 'weird'?" asked Kanna curiously.

Souta pointed at his left eye and said,

"I can see again."

"Your okay!" said a voice behind him.

Mrs. Higurashi grabbed her son in a bear hug and did not seem to notice that Souta's face was changing colors.

"Mrs. Higurashi, I would advise you to stop that. You are hurting Higurashi." said Kanna, reverting back to his last name and her cold demeanor.

"Oh, sorry honey." She let him go and Souta gulped in mouthfuls of air.

After that, it appeared to be near noon. The hospital had called, asking what had happened to there workers and Souta, Kanna released the souls in her mirror and a loud shout had came from the receiver, It seemed that there workers had instantly awoken. They had lunch and had skipped school for today so they had a whole afternoon by themselves. That's when Souta asked a question that kept nagging at him.

"Kanna?"

"What is it Higurashi."

"What was that thing that came out of your mirror?"

Kanna sighed and grabbed a sheet of paper and made herself a little diagram. She showed it to Souta and pointed at the different pictures.

"I believe that there is a flaw in my powers. You see, I think that every time I absorb and return a soul, a little piece of the soul remains in my mirror. It's nothing, but I am usually supposed to release the extra pieces so nothing bad might happen. I was as you say "slacking off" so I forgot all about. The pieces must have fused together to make a physical form, causing the monster to break out of my mirror and attack us. You get it Higurashi?"

She looked over at him and his eyes were spiraling from to much information he could not understand.

"Now that that is done, do you have anything else to say or are you going to waste more of my time?"

Souta recomposed himself and asked,

"How come you didn't know anything before but now you remember it all? It just doesn't make sense."

"That Higurashi is what I am wondering to." Kanna looked out the window and stared at the well. Something was drawing her to it. It called her name and it was hard to resist the temptation of going to it.

"Higurashi, may I take a walk around these grounds?"

"I guess so. I'll come too."

Kanna just nodded and they walked out the door. Together, they went to the god tree that was still standing after all these years.

"This is where Inuyasha goes when he visits big sister Kagome or when he tries to spy on her."

"Why would he try to spy on her?"

"I don't know."

Kanna could feel power radiate from the tree and could of sworn that she felt Inuyasha's presence when she got close to it. He showed her the shed and also talked about things that had happened when demons were around like the Noh Mask.

"May I look at the well?" asked Kanna softly.

"Sure. But only Inuyasha and Kagome can go through the well. I don't know how you got through here but you must have got lucky. I tried everything but I just can't get through." Souta ran his fingers through his hair in frustration.

When they entered the little well house or Bone Eater's Well, Souta pointed at the well.

"Here we are. Nothing really interesting here except this well okay? So let's go Kanna..., Kanna?"

A pinkish smoke was coming out of the well and was surrounding them. Kanna was lifted into the air and seemed to be in a trance. Her body was caste into the well so Souta reacted quickly. He grabbed onto her sleeve and was being pulled in also.

"Kanna get back here!"

She rose into the air and dived into the well with Souta close behind. Blue surrounded him and Kanna and Souta faded into unconsciousness.
