SEQ CHAPTER h r 1"Ugh!" Elena exclaimed as her foot fell through another decaying floorboard. "Reno! Rude! Would you two please wait up for me!"

"Elena shut up and come on!" Reno shushed her without even turning around to look at her.

"It would help if I had a flashlight or something!" She said, and then grunted as Rude threw his flashlight at her.

"Don't take it out on us 'Laney. It's not our fault you forgot your flashlight!" Reno snickered.

"Argh! For the last time, I didn't forget it! You hid it Friday night when you and Rude decided to get drunk at home for once!"

"Yea, sure. Blame it on me if it makes you feel better 'Laney."

Struggling not to through it at her superiors' head, she turned the flashlight on and shined it back and forth across the room. The room had a smell of decay and mold. Desks were upturned and test tubes were shattered on the ground. It looked as if the whole slums population had rioted in the poor laboratory.

This place is a complete wreck, she thought.

"I still can't believe that Meteor did all this damage two years ago." Elena said, she then had to quickly cover her eyes as Reno shined his flashlight directly at her face.

"Shhh…what was that?" He whispered.

"I don't know, probably a rat or some…" Elena was cut off by a warm hand over her mouth. She could feel whomever it was breathing warmly against her neck. She looked as best as she could towards her two partners, she saw Reno standing ten feet from her but looking the other way, and Rude had wandered off on his own.

I'm sure whomever it is, is expecting me to scream so I've got to catch him off guard, and that will give me the chance to warn Reno too, Elena thought.

Readying herself to put her plan into action, Elena dug in her left pocket and gripped the small metal tube tightly.

"What's the matter 'Laney? Got a frog in your throat?" Reno mocked, while continuing his observation of the room. After the small noise he had heard earlier, everything had gone silent, even Elena.

But his head immediately whipped around when he heard the muffled scream. "Laney!"

"Ouch!" yelled the stranger, "you bit me!"

"Hell yes I did!" Elena shouted as she sprayed him with her mace and got ready to kick him in the groin.

"Hold up! Hold up! It's me Cloud!" He said frantically trying to wipe the mace off his face.

Elena froze, her foot an inch from making contact with his groin.

Reno burst out laughing. "Oh man Spike, you were this close to having to do some serious explaining to Tifa when you got home." He held his up his fingers in an example.

"Elena, you can remove your foot now." Cloud stated weakly.

"Should know better than to sneak up on a Turk." She mumbled as she slowly lowered her foot.

"What are you doing here Spike?" Reno asked as he walked up behind Elena.

"Well, that's a long story…"

"So, we got time."

Cloud grinned, "Why don't we find somewhere more comfortable to discuss this, I doubt you'd find anything usefull in this mess anyway."

Reno shrugged and motioned for Cloud to lead the way before following him, only glancing back once to make sure Rude and Elena were following him.
