When Grissom hadn't loved her, Sara had figured that was it. He'd been her only chance at happiness, hadn't he?
That's what she'd thought.
But somehow, another guy had become interested. Someone funny, cute, smart; someone almost too good to be true.
Greg Sanders couldn't like her. He could never love her.
Sara's self-esteem had never been very high. She knew she was damaged and that the odds of there being anyone out there who really wanted to deal with that were low. Why should she waste her time falling for someone who'd only break her heart?
She pushed Greg away.
(Luckily for the both of them, Greg was stubborn.)

When Greg really, truly liked someone, he liked letting them know. When said someone was a beautiful, intelligent woman named Sara Sidle, he wanted to date her.
His biggest obstacle? Her low self-esteem. He decided to be persistent.
His casual hey-let's-go-out suggestions never disappeared, and neither did his subtle flirting and need to cheer Sara up when she was particularly morose. The best course of action, he figured, was to act like himself.
And one day, it finally worked. She said yes.
(Luckily for Greg, Sara couldn't resist it any longer.)

Sara Sidle was a nervous wreck. Why had she agreed to go on a date with Greg of all people? What had she been thinking? What was she going to wear?
This would not end well. It could not end well.
Sara had always had a habit of unconsciously sabotaging every relationship she ever tried to start. She just knew she'd do it to Greg.
Sara sighed. She should never have agreed to this.
(Luckily for Sara, Greg liked her just the way she was.)
X
Greg thought Sara was beautiful. That made him nervous. He didn't like being nervous. He rambled, which in turn made him sound like an idiot.
Although their date started out rocky and awkward - wasn't that a rule for the beginnings of all first dates? Greg thought so - it quickly progressed as, slowly but surely, Greg and Sara both started to visibly relax and just have a good time.
Their first date went well.
(Luckily for the both of them, they were compatible.)
X
Sara was shocked. Stunned, really. Completely and utterly flabbergasted.
She hadn't screwed something up. She'd had a good time with Greg and they were actually going to go out again. A second date. She, Sara Sidle, the Supreme Killer Of Relationships, had managed to get a second date with someone like Greg Sanders.
She couldn't believe it.
(Luckily for Sara, Greg was just as excited.)
X
He couldn't believe it.
He'd actually managed to not make a huge fool out of himself to the point where Sara had actually agreed to go out with him again. He felt like dancing or cheering, which made him feel a bit like a geek.
He still cheered a bit, anyway.
(Luckily for Greg, Sara didn't mind.)
X
When Grissom hadn't loved her, Sara figured that was it.
She hadn't counted on Greg Sanders.
Six months after their first date, they were still going strong. Together. She hadn't missed her chance at all; she'd caught it just in time.
(Luckily.)
