Title: Tears in Heaven
Summary: A song comes on the radio…. One shot
Rating: G
Seven year old Harry Potter climbed into the back of his Aunt's car and buckled his seatbelt. It had been another tough day for him. His cousin Dudley was talking animatedly to his mother in the front seat; and over him, Harry could just hear the opening chords of a very soft song….
"Would you know my name,
If I saw you in Heaven?
Would it be the same,
If I saw you in Heaven?
"I must be strong,
And carry on.
'Cause I know I don't belong
Here in Heaven."
A man with a nice voice was singing very softly and very sadly over the radio. Harry sniffed and looked out the car window at the row of identical houses flying by.
"Would you hold my hand,
If I saw you in Heaven?
Would you help me stand,
If I saw you in Heaven?
"I'll find my way,
Through night and day.
'Cause I know I just can't stay
Here in Heaven."
Today, Dudley had mocked him for not having a mother. As if it was Harry's fault!
"Time can bring you down,
Time can bend your knees.
Time can break your heart,
Have you beggin' please,
Beggin' please…."
Harry Potter wished his life was different. He wished on a star every night that his parents were still alive, that he had friends, and that Dudley and his friends didn't pick on him….
"Beyond the door
There's peace, I'm sure.
And I know there'll be no more
Tears in Heaven."
Harry jumped. He suddenly remembered that the man who sang this song had a son who died in an accident.
"Would you know my name,
If I saw you in Heaven?
Would it be the same,
If I saw you in Heaven?
"I must be strong,
And carry on.
'Cause I know I don't belong
Here in Heaven.
"'Cause I know I don't belong
Here in Heaven.
Harry felt better. Not great, but definitely better. Suddenly, it didn't matter what Dudley had said. He still wished he had his parents, but he took comfort in the fact that they didn't choose to leave him, nor was it his time to join them.

This story is dedicated to my father; he's the one who influenced my musical tastes more than anyone else (his idea of a good parent is to make sure that the children know the names of all the Beatles, just to give you an idea). Anyway, he appreciates a good Clapton song. Thanks for fixing my car, Dad! Over the Hills and Far Away!
This story was inspired by Eric Claypton's song, "Tears in Heaven". If you've never heard it, I suggest you crawl out from whatever rock you live under and buy "Unplugged" (that's my favorite recording).
Reviews, as always, are welcome.
