I love the noughts and crosses trilogy by Malorie Blackman. I'm not done with Checkmate yet, but I am writing this alternative series of events that regards Callum and Sephy plus Jude and Cara. Things that I wish could have happened but did not. If you find this story ok, then, well, please leave a review! P.S: sorry for the short chapter but I'm infamous for short chapters! ;(
(Note: This is the beginning of book 1 my version)
'Sephy, I'm a nought. You're a cross. Even if you're Kamal Hadley's daughter, it still can't work out.' He tilted his head to one side, and I felt lucky to be sitting next to him, and being able to witness his famous head tilt. He was my best friend, sure, but I was beginning to doubt my inner emotions. Lately there's been more than friendly chatter. There had also been uncomfortable silences occurring, causing my heart to beat faster… no way. I couldn't fall for a nought. Even if I wanted to, rules were rules. I stared at him, then quietly whispered: ' Callum.' He adjusted his head into a more comfortable position that allowed him to look me straight in the eye. 'Yeah?' he asked softly, giving me a thin smile. ' You can- you can confess how you really feel about me. Even if you hate me, I just want you to know I-' Aw, shucks. I couldn't say it. I mean, our relationship had been on a platonic level since forever. I couldn't risk losing my best friend over some funny feeling in my stomach! 'You?' he prompted, eyebrows raised. Then, on an act of impulse, I leant forward and felt something soft against my lip. Since I had squeezed my eyes shut in embarrassment, I didn't know if I had missed. After a minute of shocked silence, Callum began laughing. 'Your lips grazed my cheek,' he told me, chuckling as he said it. 'Well, I wasn't aiming for the lips,' I retorted. 'So you like me, huh?' he asked cheekily. I couldn't tell if he was serious or not. 'NO!' I yelled, and got up, flustered. I quickly rubbed my cheeks in a silly attempt to get that icky hot feeling away, but it was no use. 'NOBODY LIKES YOU!' I screamed at him, while walking away. 'You do,' he smirked, much to my annoyance. 'You do.'
So… is it ok? I like Callum. But I like JUDE more! YAY, JUDE! Jude McGregor rocks!
