The Watcher in the Shadows
by Bluestar
Disclaimer: Much as I would like to own Yami no Matsuei and its characters, I don't. They belong to Matsushita-san. I am making no profit from this.
He is hidden in the shadows and he slowly fades away,
Waiting for the sunset of one more eternal day.
Watching for the echoes of a voice that caused him pain,
Yet never would he let that voice cry those tears again.
He waits where none can see him, though none have cared to look,
A silent shield of shadows who gave far more than he took,
Protector, friend and guardian who will leap to his defence,
Though to the world he's cold, that face is only a pretence.
And he would die or kill or maim if that were the only way
That he could keep him standing there, as he does every day.
And he knows how fragile that young man's heart can be,
Though in years he is older than mere mortals would believe.
And then he sees him walk away – he smiles, he laughs, he dreams,
The young one tells his partner that all can be as it seems,
That life is joy as well as pain, that tears don't have to fall,
And purple eyes meet emerald, and for once he's standing tall.
Then blue eyes in the shadows turn away – his job is done –
For now the one he watches can look up and see the sun,
And though his heart is breaking, he still finds time to smile
For he hopes those two can find the joy that he shared for a while.
