The cane was jealous. It couldn't help itself as it sat forgotten yet again by the door of its companion's apartment. It stood there indignantly ignoring the not too unpleasant moaning coming from the couch in the living room. Really how rude was that? Just tossing it aside like he couldn't wait to get rid of it.
Yes indeed the cane was unhappy. It heard laughter drift up between the low guttural moans. If it had lungs it would have sighed. All those years of supporting him, holding him up, holding open elevator doors, coming down on peoples feet, hitting them in the but! All those years and this is how he was repaid!
Suddenly a tie flew from the couch and wrapped itself around the cane. Caught off guard the cane did the only thing it could, fell over. It lied silently on the ground with the, in is opinion rather unattractive, tie. It could hear the ministrations move from the couch to the bedroom.
The cane resigned itself to its fate, apparently his owner had someone else to hold him up. The tie's silky tail was wrapped around it in a comforting hug, as if to say, I know exactly how you feel.
