Tactics On: Gender

Disclaimer: I don't own it and I never will. Sad, but true.

Paring(s): Currently a teeny-tiny little Sain/Kent hint.

Warning(s): A slight Shonen-ai hint. That's about it.

Summary: First of a series of one-shots based on FE7: Rekka no Ken. First up, what do you do when you can't tell if your tactician is male or female?

"I still cant believe you thought I was a boy..!"

"B-but milady-!"

"I mean, it's not like I'm that tall, and I don't sound that much like a boy, do I?"

"No, but your voice is rather neutral," Lyn said, eyebrows drawn low in thought.

"And you are rather tall for someone your age milady," added Kent.

"Not to mention that you wear the hood of your cloak up most of the time. What else is one supposed to think?"

The young lady in question narrowed her almond-shaped eyes, one gray, the other green and sneered. Her wavy lavender hair, kept out of her face (for the most part) by a black bandanna, was blown out of her eyes as she opened her mouth to answer them only to yelp and urge her mount to one side, barely dodging an arrow. Sain and Kent sprang into battle against the scraggly group of bandits almost instantly, and Lyn would have stayed at her side had the young tactician not barked at her to take out an axe wielder headed for Sain's unprotected back. Kent swore loudly, turning away from his defeated foe to go to his comrade's aid only to sigh in relief and follow his tactician's directions to go after the leader of the ragtag group, who was shakily standing his ground. He was easily cut down by the cavalier, and the tactician dismounted, looking over the fallen thieves for anything of use. She picked u a couple of daggers, a sword, and, much to her surprise and slight pleasure, a small purse filled with coins. She tucked the items and mounted back up, and the quartet resumed their journey, Sain and Kent at the rear, the former being chastised by the latter, worry and something else evident on the redheaded cavalier's face. Finally, the tactician saw fit to continue their conversation and dropped back, turning to Sain, no longer really angry and with a twinkle of amusement in her dual-colored eyes.

"I still don't get how you thought I was a boy Sain…" She smirked. "I mean for crying out loud, my name is Lace!"

Gigglefit Sorry, but this popped into my head a bit ago and I had to write it. I'm planning a whole series of one-shots like this, some long, some short, and maybe a chapter-fic later on. But that's all for now! Please read and review, okay?
