She stepped out of her bathroom; damp red hair a deep shade of auburn that shone in the soft light, her white nightgown shifting lightly around her knees.
Emma sat on the edge of her bed; the covers pulled back, hand reaching for the bedside lamp.
Blue/gray eyes lifted when the hand brushed something soft.
A white rose and a single sheet of paper: black letters curling across the smooth white sheet:
One look and you caught me,
I abandoned myself in your eyes,
The windows:
Doors to your soul opened and the universe inverted,
I was looking into the sky,
Your sky:
Blue and dotted with silver clouds,
Raining drops of lavender,
Sweet to taste:
In the ocean where there was night,
Quiet shadows looming beneath the water,
Silky and cool:
Bright stars reflecting,
Shining through the night mist,
Always my guiding star:
My love,
My Emma.
She gently set the paper where it had rested and turned off the light.
Slowly she drifted off, her smile hidden in the dark.
