Chapter 48: Playin' Easy In Water

"Gosh, I'm late!" Angelina said out loud the next morning, running through the streets of Pokemon Village. It was a little after eleven when she noticed everyone woke up without her for Jeremy's second match on the Ice Field. She ran faster, her Pichu hanging on for dear life, and slammed into another girl, both falling over.

The girl was Angelina's age with long blackish-brown hair pulled up in a ponytail and bright green eyes. She wore a black tank-top, a sleeveless white vest, a red bandana, a dark blue jean pleited mini skirt, a black baseball cap with a Pokeball logo, and black knee-high socks, and black and white sneakers.

"Oww!" Angelina rubbed her head as she laid on the ground.

"I'm so sorry," the girl said, holding out her hand to help Angelina back onto her feet.

"It's no problem." Angelina said.

The girl smiled in relief but took another look at Angelina and gasped in shock. "Oh my goodness! It's you!"

"What?! Danielle?" Angelina asked, also realizing this girl was one of her childhood friends from Crystal Island, Danielle Emery. "No way! I thought I'd never see you again!"

"I know!" Dani embraced her best friend happily. "Amber's here also, we watched your battle yesturday. You were awesome!"

"Thanks!" Angelina said. "Wish I knew about that sooner. Are you both competing?"

"Yes, I've won my first battle on the Rock Field, and Amber won her round on the Grass Field."

"Sounds like you're doing great!" Angelina said. After a second, she remembered, "Sorry to cut this short, but I'm late watching Jeremy's battle."

"That's what Marcus told me," Dani laughed, "He said you were on the way here."

"Really?! Then I'm glad we ran into each other. Let's go." Angelina said, and the two girls ran down the street to the Ice Field. They arrived just to see Jeremy's Typhlosion take out his opponent's Kangaskhan.

"And Jeremy Cretonne takes the win!" the announcer said as the crowd went wild; Jeremy smiled as he noticed Angelina and Dani run into the Ice Field.

"I missed it," Angelina sighed and quickly found her step-relatives. She maneuvered through the evacuating crowd and met up with them. She noticed they were accompanied by Marcus' younger sister, Amber.

"Bout time you got here," Marcus said.

"Yeah, look who I ran into?" Angelina said, placing a friendly arm around Dani.

"We're glad you like the surprise," April laughed.

"Jeremy was awesome!" Amber exclaimed in excitement. "You guys would've loved it!"

"We're gonna meet him at the registration center," Marcus added.

"I'm going to make lunch at the house," Aunt Vicky smiled, "I'll see everyone later." She got her good-byes and left the stadium.

"So I heard that Ash won his second match on the Rock Field." Marcus said.

"Oh good for him," Angelina said, feeling proud for her brother. "He has the Ice Field and Grass Field left to battle. Guess I'll wish us both luck."

The group of trainers walked to the lobby of the registration pavilion where they met up with Jeremy. He took the complements from everyone. "Thank you," he smiled and then looked at Angelina, "So when is your second battle?"

"Mine is 3:00PM on the Water Field," Angelina said.

"Oh really? Mine is the same time on the Grass Field." Dani said.

"I won't be able to watch either of your matches." Amber frowned. "Because mine is at three on the Ice Field."

"Well all of you just do your best, that's what really matters," Marcus said, the girls smiled at each other and nodded.

Later that afternoon after lunch and strategizing, Angelina made her way to the Water Field. It was a giant pool of water with several white floating platforms and reminded her of the Cerulean Gym battlefield.

Angelina took a deep breathe as she stood in the green trainer's box. Her family was supporting her in the crowd, except Danielle and Amber, their matches were the same time on different fields. Her male opponent stood on the red trainer's box; he had gray hair under a red-and-white hat, wore light blue jeans, and a black t-shirt.

"Welcome everyone to the second match on the Water Field between Angelina Murakami and Johnny Chadwick! Each trainer will be allowed to use three Pokemon, and the red trainer goes first!" the announcer said as the machine landed on red. "This battle will end when all Pokemon on one side are unable to battle. Good luck to both trainers!"

Johnny grabbed a Pokeball from his belt and enlarged it, "Go Seel!" he threw the Pokeball and from it formed the sea-lion Pokemon. It's head popped out of the water.

"Choice can be the determining factor of this whole battle," April pointed out, "The Water Field is one of the toughest!"

'Here's to hoping all of his team is Water types,' Angelina took a deep breath and smiled in confidence. "Go Sparkette!" she threw the Pokeball calling out the small orange mouse, Raichu who landed on one of the platforms near the water.

"Seel versus Raichu! Begin!" the referee said, raising both flags.

"Seel, start off with Aqua Tail!" Johnny commanded.

Seel's tail glows light blue and it spins it around. A spiral of water forms and lashes it's tail towards it's opponent.

"Sparkette, use Brick Break!"

One of Raichu's arms becomes surrounded in white sparks and crashed down on Seel's head, sending it crashing back into a platform.

"Shake it off, Seel! Hit it with Signal Beam and follow up with Blizzard!" Johnny commanded.

The Sea Lion Pokemon launched a rainbow colored beam from the tip of its horn and struck it's opponent in the chest, sending it flying back. As Raichu struggled to its feet, Seel summoned an incredibly cold wind which made even the crowds shiver slightly. As it struck, the electric mouse Pokemon cried in pain but stood its ground.

"Hang in there, Sparkette! Use Thunderbolt!"

Before Johnny could order his Pokemon to dodge, Raichu cheeks crackle with yellow electricity and it releases a light colored lightning bolt from its body.

"SEEL!" the white Pokemon yelled in pain as the attack ellectrocutes it's body and rolled onto it's back completely unconscious.

"Seel is unable to battle! The winner is Raichu!" the referee declared, the first light went out under Johnny's picture.

"Return!" Johnny recalled his Pokemon, putting up the Pokeball and enlarging another one. "Go Seaking!" he threw the Pokeball and summoned a large orange fish-like Pokemon with billowing pectoral fins and a horn in the center of its forehead.

"Let's see how this will go!" the announcer said to the cheerful crowd.

"Go Angelina!" Aunt Vicky yelled.

"So far so good," Marcus smiled, "And Raichu still has the advantage!"

"This one should be easy for Angelina," April added. "Although I'm not surprised her opponent is using Water-type Pokemon."

"Sparkette, let's wrap this up quickly with Thunderbolt!" Angelina ordered as Raichu's cheeks crackled and prepared the electrical attack.

"Seaking, use Bubble Beam!"

"Seaking!" the Goldfish Pokemon stuck out it's head some from the pool and released a stream of large blue bubbles from its mouth towards Raichu. The bubbles collided as Raichu unleashed her attack, the electricity bursting them all instead of hitting Seaking.

"C'mon Sparkette!" Angelina shouted, watching her Pokemon look around for its opponent. Seaking took a dive underwater. "Take it down with Thunder!"

Raichu nodded and braced herself as her body becomes surrounded by electricity.

"Horn Attack!" Johnny called out as Seaking erupted from the water from behind Raichu as charged forward with its horn.

Raichu fired a massive yellow beam of electricity from her body at Seaking, it's unconsious body floated on the water's surface.

"Seaking is unable to battle! Raichu wins!" the referee declared as another light blacked out under Johnny's picture.

Johnny's mouth dropped open, but he quickly withdrew the Pokemon and put up the Pokeball, enlarging another one and throwing it. A brown star-shaped Pokemon formed in the water.

"Sparkette, use Thunderbolt!"

"Staryu, dodge it!" Johnny countered.

Raichu cheeks crackle with yellow electricity once more and it released a powerful bolt from her body towards Staryu, but it was able to quickly move out of the way and dove into the water.

"Sparkette, be careful!" Angelina called out, but ir was too late as Staryu appeared from the water from behind Raichu and slammed right into her backside, knocking her off the platform and into the pool as Staryu returned underwater.

"Try to swim back to the platform!" Angelina encouraged her Pokemon as it began swimming, but Staryu was fast as it emerged from underneath Raichu and sent it soaring into the air.

"Staryu, use Water Gun!" Johnny yelled out.

"HAYA!" the stoic and loud Water-type stuck out it's top limb and sprayed a jet of cold water, colder than the one on the field, straight towards Raichu where it collided and sent her soaring back onto the hard platform.

"Sparkette, are you okay?" Angelina asked with worry.

"Chuu... Rai," Raichu looked tired as it slowly got up.

"Staryu, take it out with Rapid Spin!" Johnny ordered.

"Finish with Iron Tail!"

"Rai!" Raichu nodded as it's tail began to glow white, and Staryu began spinning like a saw blade and charged toward it.

Raichu got on all fours just as Staryu was about to collide with it. The electric rodent leaped into the air and swung its iron tail around right into Staryu. The force of both attacks caused incredible knockback for them both as they went soaring in different directions.

Raichu did a flip in midair and regained its balance while Staryu was still flying backwards, a little stunned from the brunt force of the attack.

"Now Sparkette! Thunderbolt!" Angelina yelled.

"Rai... CHUUUU!" Raichu scrunched her cheeks and unleashed another massive stream of electricity from her body and engulfed Staryu. It began to fall through the air and back into the water where it disappered.

Everyone in the stadium, people and Pokemon alike, waited anxiously to see if Staryu would resurface. They all had a tense look on their faces. Soon they saw a shape began to come towards the water's surface where it simply floated. Its red jewel was blinking in and out in defeat.

"Staryu is unable to battle! The winner is Raichu and the green trainer, Angelina from Pallet Town!" the referee announced and the crowd cheered loudly.

'There goes my chance,' Johnny sighed and withdrew the star-shape Pokemon, latching it to his belt and walked out of the Water Field.

"YES!" Angelina jumped up and down as Raichu ran up and jumped happily into her trainer's arms. "Awesome job, Sparkette! I'm so proud of you!" she recalled the Pokemon and decended the booth to join her family and friends. "Only one more." she smiled.

They walked to the Pokemon Center so Angelina can heal her Pokemon, then caught up with Danielle and Amber, whom both had won their matches respectively. They had dinner with the family at an all-you-can-eat restaurant and retired back to the house for a good nights' sleep.
