Chapter 1 Childhood
The first memory Dove ever had was of the silvery spires of the monk's temple, Azarath. He was the only child in Azarath that did not know his (or her) father. The other children were afraid of him (though they could not put a name to their fears) and he thought it was the fact that not only were his ears unusually round, but had something to do with his father… Instead of dwelling on such thoughts, he tried to make friends. He sadly failed miserably. Therefore, he turned to study of the sacred books of Azar. That is, until his first decade day…
His mother took the day of work (even though she was one of the most important priestesses of Azar ever since her seer powers failed) to ask him what he wanted to be apprenticed as. "I wish to be a priest," he had said. At his words, his mother's face grew dark.
"I have not informed you about your father, have I?" asked the priestess, knowing the answer before Dove could shake his head. His mother sighed and told him in the vaguest way she could (he knew he would be told more and be able to understand more on his second decade day). "Your father was not born in Azarath. He was from the old world, Earth. How he came here is a mystery, one we will most likely never know. Due to the strange circumstances, the elders did not trust him, but let him live here, hoping that he would be willing to live peacefully.
"Sadly, this was not the case. You see, in the old world, not only did the people fight, they also allowed something called lust to rule their lives. Lust is a tricky subject that you might learn about from your teacher-master, but I am not certain. However the point is, lust is evil, and your father lusted. You see, he thought I was attractive, and in the worst way. I became the object of his lust.
"The worst part is that he allowed lust to consume him! Moreover, he slowly but surely returned to his original evil nature, until he was no better than the heathens of that world were. Through this, he became your father, and I lost my gift. The elders, when informed were forced to take extreme measures. They cast him back to earth, and anchored him there. Then, less than a year later, I made my last prophecy the day you were born."
Dove was amazed at this story and knew that this was more interesting than anything he could have thought up. He would remember this forever. He would find out more in ten years… or so he thought…
