Author's Comments: I got this idea after reading a small paragraph about Hoshi-no-tama. So that legend, and any other ones that may occur in this story, I did not come up with.

Hoshi-no-tama

"According to legend, a fox's power grows as it ages. After a century, they are able to grow a tail and gain the ability to shape shift and posses mortals. The most powerful foxes are the ones that grow the grand old age of 1,000(the so-called nine-tailed fox). When the fox grows nine tails, its fur will become silver, white, or gold.

Foxes are renowned tricksters. They can take the form of an enchanting woman and seduce an unworthy man or reward and protect deserving people. They are also able to cast illusions, appear in dreams, and read thoughts.

There is also another legend that tells of a fox's Hoshi-no-tama (star ball). A fox closely guards this round ball. It is said that it holds some of the fox's power when it shape shifts. If one is to obtain of it, then they can force the fox to help them in anyway. A fox is to keep their promise to the one who found their ball or face deterioration in their rank and power."

Putting down the piece of chalk, the teacher turns around to face his sleeping or half a sleep students.

"Now, any questions?" no hands raised, "Good! As for your homework over the weekend-" insert a collective groan of complaint, "I want you all to do a small report on-"

As if Fate took pity on the poor students, the bell had rung cutting of the teacher and signaling the end of classes. In a cloud of dust, the students stampeded out the door and into freedom, all except one. The lone student's yellow hair covered his lowered face as he continued to scribble the rest of what was on the board onto his paper.

"Naruto." The boy's head shot up at the mention of his name. Quickly glancing at the clock, he scrambled to collect his belongings.

"Sorry Iruka-sensai. Didn't hear the bell ring." Scratching the back of his head, Naruto smiled at his teacher.

Iruka smiled at his student as he still tried to organize his papers while walking out. Picking up an eraser, he began to wipe away the writing on the board. He paused at 'nine-tailed fox'.

"It's just a legend." He forcefully told himself before cleaning the rest of the board.
