"Merry Christmas!"
The streets of Neopia Central were chiming with joyous pets and owners this time of year. In the midst of Christmas, it seemed to May Lynn that everyone was in a good mood. And why wouldn't they be? It was nearing Christmas day, and everyone was out shopping for presents. The purple kougra sighed happily to herself and adjusted the two pink ribbons tied around her ears, using the reflection in a shop window. Perfect.
She continued walking down the streets of the market place. What a beautiful time of year…
"May, wait up!"
A yellow kacheek skirted around and pushed through the crowd. He stopped to catch his breath when he reached May.
"Tai, are you okay?" May smiled and looked at him.
"May! That rabid puppyblew almost ATE ME!" he yelped, pointing backward at a puppyblew scurrying down the busy sidewalk.
"Hardly." She took him by has paw and dragged him off down the block.

Sometimes, she thought, Tai could be a little hopeless. But he was her best friend, and they'd stuck together no matter what.

Now the kacheek was trotting along by her side. Every so often he'd stop and look in at a shop window, or trip over someone else and hand back to apologize. Often times, someone with a puppyblew would walk by, and May would have to drag him away and beg forgiveness from it's owner as Tai sniveled over the horror that was the petpet.

By the end of the day, May had done her shopping for all of her friends, except for one. Jotting off the last name on her shopping list, she turned to him.
"Tai, what do you want for Christmas, anyway?"
He gave her a perplexed look, before grinning. "You, of coarse!"

Arrgh…May mumbled to herself. If only he weren't so straightforward!

"No, seriously Tai, what do you want for Christmas this year? I bought you that yellow kacheek plushie last year…" She trailed off, hoping to get an answer from her friend.
"I told you already." He said simply, still smiling from kacheek ear to kacheek ear.
"Taaaiiiiii…" May groaned.
"One of your bows is titled funny."
"Tai, don't change the subject!" May Lynn turned her back to him and started walking down the street without him.
"May, wait up!" Tai jogged off after her down the alley. She stopped part of the way and waited for him to catch up.
"You're hopeless; you know that, right?" She looked at him.
"No, but who could want anymore than what I've got?"
"What?" the kougra quirked an eyebrow.
"I have my best friend, and I'm surrounded by owners and pets who are celebrating the true spirit of Christmas! I don't need anymore." His face flushed, and he looked down.
"Tai," May smiled, "Neopia really needs more guys like you." She pulled him into a hug.
