Roslin sat at her desk, musing. What if things had been different? A photograph flashed into her mind. She was pregnant, and about twenty years younger. William Adama, also younger, had an arm wrapped around her and two teenage boys stood around them. As quickly as the image came it was gone. She started to feel a bit dizzy and realized that that life was far from her now. With a twinge of sadness she wondered what the child would have looked like.

Another image flashed in her mind, a giggling little girl was taking her first step, her father kneeling with outstretched arms. A smile crept upon Laura's face, the little girl was adorable. In another world Laura could have loved her very much.

Another scene flooded into her mind, the little girl was grown. The sun glimmering in her hair, a diploma was handed to her. The young woman turned to Laura, smiled and waved. Laura smiled proudly and waved, biting back happy tears. A hand squeezed hers and she barely saw that it was Adama before she once more came back into reality. She found her heart beating rapidly and took several deep breaths before she was once more plunged into another world.

She was lying in her husband's arms in his quarters on the Galactica when the phone rang, he answered it. Turning to her with an icy, tear filled stare he wrapped his arms around her for support. He started sobbing as he choked out the words. The cylons had attacked and destroyed caprica. Their daughter had been a teacher on Caprica. Instantly Laura knew she was dead. Laura once more felt herself brutally falling into reality.

An overwhelming sadness enveloped her, she had lost her daughter. Tears filled her eyes and streamed down her cheeks. In another world she married Adama and had a daughter. In another world the beautiful woman had been slaughtered by the cylons. In another would she had another life, but in this world she felt everything as if it was real, she felt the agony of losing a child. Another world, far from hers, impacted this life and showed her true pain.

Laura stood up and found herself outside of Adama's quarters. In another world those would have been her quarters, too. Adama opened the door, and let her in. Tears started flooding from her eyes and she found his arms around her, comforting her. She clung to him. In another world, no in this world, she needed him. In this world, they had lost a daughter.

Adama gently rocked her, unaware of the other world. In this world she was in pain, and in this world Adama would do all he could to comfort her. In this world Adama needed her, too.

This is just a little fic. I came up with while typing some other stories. I hope you enjoyed it. :D
