Chapter 3:
Kagome jumped and slapped the ball to Sae while the other team opened their eyes in amazement at the height of her jump for someone so short. She heard someone groan, "Aw man, why isn't she in high jumping?"
Sae quickly passed it to Arimi who then passed it to Kagome again who then dunked it into the opponent's basket. The audience watched with awe.
It was then that Kagome noticed the tension between the two coaches. Coach Ayame was glaring at Coach Ookami and they were arm wrestling. Kagome called for a time-out and everyone was even more shocked. The team huddled on their side and Kagome asked Yuka, "What's the relationship between Coach Ookami and Ayame?"
Yuka looked uneasy. "Erm... they're a couple. But it seems that they got in a fight recently because Ookami was checking out another girl, so then they started fighting over who the better coach was so they decided to have a matchoff."
Kagome raised her eyebrow at the amount of information Yuka was giving. "What! Everyone knows this stuff!" Yuka exclaimed, instantly on the defensive.
Kagome shrugged and whispered to the judge who then whispered to the other team. Unbenownth to the two coaches, the two teams had already ended their game. They shot one failure after another, both teams and then gradually, the game went towards the two coaches. Suddenly, the ball was passed to Coach Ookami and both he and Coach Ayame were pushed onto the court while the rest of the players ran out the sidelines. The two lovers stood on the court, blinking, thinking about everything that had just occurred. "What just happened?" Coach Ookami asked, in a stupor.
"I don't know. I think they just stranded the two of us on the court," Ayame slowly answered.
"Uhh... so what do we do now?" Ookami asked very slowly,
"Well, the audience is watching and everything, so I guess we have to play each other."
So the two started a game of one on one. The whole audience was shocked speechless. While the rest of the players were watching the match, Kagome slipped away into the girl's locker room. She quickly returned to her comfortable clothes and walked out the door. She looked around the main doors of the gym to take a peek at the match when she bumped into a hard solid chest... who happened to sport a business suit. Sesshoumaru Takada. Turning around quickly, she tried to briskly escape. Unfortunately, a firm grip on her wrist stopped that exit.
"You are Kagome Higurashi, correct?" Sesshoumaru asked in a deep smooth voice, completely void of emotion.
Without hesitating, Kagome slipped into the shy and nervous mask. "Ye-yes!" she squeaked, almost coughing at her ability to sound so... not her.
Sesshoumaru sighed. All the girls were either like this or the more blunt ones, oh he shivered just thinking about it. "You are an excellent basketball player, would you consider playing on the team I am creating?"
"No-no! I'm really not that good and everything. People just exaggerate!" Kagome stuttered.
Sesshoumaru resisted the incredibly powerful urge to roll his eyes. "I have seen your skills more than once. I know what has been exaggerated and not. Like your looks for one, have definitly been exaggerated."
This time it was Kagome's turn to resist impulse. Gripping her fists tight, she tried not to punch him in the face, but said in a very dull and flat voice, "Well, as much as I'm sorry my face does not match up to your standards, I cannot play basketball for you for the very plain and simple reason that I. Don't. Like. Basketball."
"Impossible. How would you get this skilled without practice?"
"That was then, this is now. Now I would appreciate it very much if you would not pry into my business," Kagome snatched her arm back from his tightening grip and marched out the back door of the school, leaving a very much shocked Sesshoumaru Takada.
It was windy outside, incredibly so. Kagome hugged her backpack to her chest, trying to keep warmth. After five minutes, she finally reached her house. She'd almost forgotten that she had a night race that day. There was a huge load of homework awaiting completion. She sighed and got to work. She finished everything at 7pm and stretched as she got out of her chair and stood on her numb legs. Wincing in pain, she flopped onto her bed and fell into a deep sleep. In her dream, Sesshoumaru came in front of her and smiling wickedly, put a bomb underneath her father's silver motorcycle. She saw as her father mounted the bike and went racing and then the racer who kicked the bike and the explosion, all the while trying to scream out, yet not being able to.
Kagome awoke in a pool of sweat and wide eyes. She checked the time and figured that since she had another hour until the night race and that everyone in the family was already asleep, she would go for a little warm up on her bike. The blue machine was waiting for her, sparkling mysteriously in the moonlit shed where she hid her bike. She mounted her bike and flew off, though she was almost sure she saw a flash of silver behind a tree.
