Dear Diary,

My brother can be strange sometimes. I'm not just talking about his ghost powers, though I still think they are very weird. No, right now I am talking about his psychological well-being.

I've always worried about him. Mom and Dad's ghost hunting profession has always made me care more deeply about Danny. And now that he has ghost powers…I do my best to just keep the parental units as far away from him as possible. I have always been protective of his psychological welfare, and there is one thing that I know is going to eat him up from the inside if he doesn't let it out soon. This thing is his feelings for one of his friends.

Oh, sure, he says that he likes Paulina, but I don't believe it. That's just his hormones talking. I also think that his mind has been telling him that Paulina is the one for him, but she's not. Anybody with half a brain could see that. According to the school system, she is the top of the pyramid and you can't get any better. According to real-world status – Paulina is the bottom of the food chain and is getting lower every second of her existence. Oh, don't get me wrong, she's still a person. If I'm going to be a psychologist I have to treat everybody equally. Still, I can't help but look down on her. She's a prideful, conceited, stuck-up, arrogant little- sorry, got a little carried away there.

My point is, Danny deserves better than Paulina. In his teenaged mind, he wants to be popular. In order to accomplish this, he thinks that he has to date one of the popular girls. Danny just doesn't see that popularity won't matter within a few years, and beauty is only skin-deep. Paulina's "flawless" skin will be covered in wrinkles by the time she reaches the age of forty, while Samantha will be one of the most beautiful women in the world.

She also likes Danny how he is now, no matter what happens. Sure, they have their fights, but who doesn't? The two of them have known each other practically forever. They're always laughing about funny things that happened to them in second grade. Apparently, that was a very strange year for everybody, and it included Tucker throwing up in Sam's lunchbox.

Anyway, back to the point. Sam is smart, and cares deeply about Danny, even if she won't admit it. I know enough about the human mind to know that she is only afraid of being rejected. But him, on the other hand, he can admit it. He's only afraid of being classified as a bigger "loser" than he already is believed to be.

It's like Danny has this constant battle going on within him between his hormones and his heart, with his mind stuck somewhere in the middle. His brain is just trying to come up with the pros and cons of each relationship, though, as I said before, anyone with half a mind (Tucker, for instance) could see that the right one for him is Sam.

And Danny, I know you're reading this. If I ever catch you in my diary again, you'll be a full ghost by the time I'm done with you!

Danny blushed, slammed the diary closed, and darted invisibly back to his bedroom. Jazz swung open her slightly ajar closet door, poked her head out, and smothered a giggle.
