Usually, when one has nightmares, they'll run off to their parents about it, cuddling up with their parents who will reassure them that the dream isn't real until they fall asleep.
The slightly older children know that it isn't real, and after a few minutes curl up and go straight back to sleep.
But not for Rufus ShinRa. At eleven years of age, he had never once gone to his bastard of a father because of his nightmares. His father scared him more than his nightmares.
His father was the President of ShinRa Inc., and that immediately gave him asshole status as far as the young boy was concerned.
So, when he jolted awake from a day that he didn't want to remember, that he shouldn't have been able to remember - he went to Tseng.
It was as though the young twenty year old had picked out the pattern of the young vice president's footsteps against the carpet, as he was sleepily rubbing his eyes as Rufus clambered onto his futon and curled up in his arms.
"Another bad dream?" he questioned the young blond, his hand automatically finding Rufus' hair and stroking it gently. The young boy nodded, nuzzling his face into the crook of Tseng's neck.
If President ShinRa had known that Rufus had been staying in Tseng's bed due to nightmares for the past few weeks, he'd have a fit three ways from Sunday.
But Tseng didn't mind. He was just a Turk, and had been assigned to protect the President's son for now.
Some of his fellow Turks thought it a curse. But he certainly didn't think so.
Tseng pressed his lips to Rufus' golden locks, drawing a soft smile from the young boy.
"Yeah... but I'm safe with you, right?" he questioned Tseng, his arms wrapping contentedly around the older man's neck. Tseng brushed his lips across Rufus' forehead with a small nod, actions speaking louder than words.
"As always, Rufus sir." Tseng replied softly. But his words drew a shudder from Rufus. "I'm not sir! MY father is." he said rather huffily, and Tseng laughed softly.
Rufus hit him playfully, but it didn't even hurt the young Turk. He just chuckled more at Rufus' cute actions.
After a few minutes of just sitting there basking in the silence, Rufus yawned all of a sudden, and nuzzled down more into Tseng's arms.
"Please never leave me to deal with the nightmares on my own..." the young boy whimpered.
Tseng nodded slowly, pressing another kiss to Rufus' cheek. "I... promise I won't, Rufus sir. I am your bodyguard after all."
Rufus kissed Tseng lightly on the cheek, causing his cheeks to flush pink.
"Will you promise me that you'll always be here"
Tseng hesitated. It wasn't a promise he could definitely make, because Turks were always around and about.
And it seemed they always had a habit of getting killed while they were at it.
"I... can't really promise that Rufus..." he murmured. "Then just promise for as long as you can!" the young boy said innocently.
Tseng placed another kiss to Rufus' forehead, a small smile on his lips.
"For as long as I can then. I promise."
