Fade

by Lady Pyrefly

Author's Note: It's been a long time since I wrote or played for FFX-2. Forgive any discrepancies with the canon. This story was heavily inspired by "Lets Fade Together" by Franz Ferdinand. For those of you who read my livejournal (ladyunderscorepyrefly if you're intersted), I told you fanfiction would be coming based on the new CD.

"One thousand years...?" Shuyin asked, dreading the answer. "One thousand years and this moment is all we get?" When you love someone this much, you doubt it could fade. Despite how much you wished it would. Wished you could fade together, forever. He just wanted to go to the Farplane, to rest, with her.

And now she was so far away. All he wanted was to take her far away. Far, far away. To save her. All he really wanted was her.

Her.

Yevon only knew how much he wished they could fade together. Forever.

"This moment's enough." Lenne didn't really believe it. She wanted an eternity, not a moment. A moment that would fade faster than she would. She and Shuyin would be sucked away into the bright oblivion of the Farplane.

All he had wanted was to save her.

One hundred million years of loneliness, of death, of sorrow, of nothing.

One hundred million years, and this was all they got.

It was nowhere near enough.

If he had saved her, Tidus knew that they would never stayed together. He would have done something, she would have matured without him. Left him. That was the way of the world.

If they had gotten away, he would never have wanted her to leave.

Warm currents of water sloshed Tidus around. He knew he was underwater, knew that he should be swimming upward, trying to survive. Something faint and humming drifted past him. A pyrefly, he knew, because he was dead. Dead on the Farplane.

Welcome. Welcome to the Farplane.

Stay awake, stay awake.

No. Tidus' mind was slow under the water. Why the hell should I stay awake? To swim upwards to a home that wasn't really his? What kind of screwed up karma brought this hell on him?

If he hadn't been underwater, frustrated tears would have streamed from the corners of Tidus' eyes. He gritted his teeth and kicked upwards. Maybe this time he'd find away Home, to her.

Yuna sighed, sitting on the pier at Besaid. "You're so far away..." she murmured. "Oh, Yevon, you are so far away." She smiled bittersweetly down at the sphere still in her hand. It was frozen halfway through the movie. Yuna reflected that her hair was a mess, it had been taken right after she had jumped down from the Shoopuff on the Moonflow.

"I love you. I'm...I'm fading, I can't last like this without you," the ex-summoner whispered to the wide open sea. "Lets fade together? Forever?"

She got no reply.
