A/N: Yay, a one-shot! Because I'm lazy on the chapter story, hahahaaaa. Yea, I know I switch from past to present tense for the memory, but that was on purpose. I was trying to be CREATIVE. Haha. And the "…" is supposed to lead to the memory. Yea, no words before laying! So it was purposeful, don't fret.

Disclaimer: It all belongs to Square-Enix! Well, most of it anyway. Hoho.

Confused

Rikku was confused by Gippal. One moment he'd yell at her, scream at her, and he would tell her every little thing she did was irritating; the next moment he'd be laughing with her and praising her sense of humor. Even when she wasn't trying to be funny!

She hated the moments when he was angry with her. She felt small and alone with her best friend acting up like that. Sometimes she would just snap and the two would have a HUGE argument, and following said argument they wouldn't speak for a number of weeks until one of them realized it was too boring—too lonely. Then one would speak to the other and everything would be fixed. Rikku liked those moments. She hated the times when everything was icy between them and both were too stubborn to fix it. Sometimes she thought the reason they argued so much was because they were too much alike.

Rikku loved it when Gippal and she were best friends again. She loved exploring the desert sand dunes with him; racing to see who could fix the machina the fastest, and just sitting there in silence and watching the clouds roll by. Gippal was the one person she felt safe with—the one person she knew she wanted in her life no matter what.

But these types of things were always off and on. Now that they were older, now that they hadn't seen each other in what seemed like centuries, things were a bit different. He wasn't always excited to be around her, but he didn't always yell at her either. She was confused. She didn't understand it—she didn't understand him.

And just when she thought she was about to burst from the pain and the pressure and yell and scream at him with all of her might and ruin everything forever, he surprised her with a hug or a kiss on the cheek. Sometimes he would even manage to find a flower around Djose Temple. And then Rikku knew things would be fine.

When Gippal had to leave on trips to the desert to check up on the machina, she would always feel so alone and afraid. What if he never came back? But then her mind wandered and she remembers…

Laying on the sand dunes with him. He points out constellations to her and she's amazed at how smart he is. Then he cracks a rude remark, she snaps back at him and pouts and the two fall into silence. It's then that Gippal grabs her arm reassuringly and whispers into her ear "life would be so boring without you, Cid's Girl".

And Rikku knew things would be fine.
